If we don't like a movie about this subject perhaps we should work harder to make sure it doesn't actually happen in real life.

As a female veteran i can attest that the state of female/male relations in the military has great high points where man and women can bond in ways not possible in civiliam life and HORRIBLE lows where our own female service members are raped by male service members.

I believe this comes from an inherent tactics in military training that dehumaize the enemy and women.

This training comes to a terrible crux in the case of Abeer. You can't let these soldiers excape blame for their own actions but if you really want to make sure this doesn't happen in the future you have to look at how our military and society are trained to think.

Its unfortunate though that it does not seem as if DePalma was able to convey the rape without showing it. I agree that having to see these things helps people understand how horrific it is but you can never really get across what rape is like just by showing it and too often it becomes sexualized.

Masked men cutting people is because of US invading their country. If in US another country invades as they did and had there been a lot of victims, same things would have happened there too. No body is crazy to do things simply. There were families that were slain by the US military (air strikes and so on), people tortured.

What is shocking is there are people who don't still believe that 9/11 was an inside job.

"it’s going to further enrage the side that continues to insist that anyone who questions the war or the way it has been fought loves the terrorists, hates our troops, should be executed for committing treason, etc. DePalma aims to hit the jugular, but his approach makes someone like Charles Ferguson seem all the wiser for aiming for the brain."

If this is a good prediction(I have yet to see REDACTED(which makes me very jealous of you for having seen what I gather must have been the first screening in U.S.(I admit I'm a big De Palma fan(he has failed he share of times but he's a director who make vary intellectual experiments within the biggest of pop culture mediums))), I'm wondering if aiming for the brain of these people who will have knee jerk reactions to anything "anti-war" is the correct plan of attack for someone who admittedly "hate(s) this war and want(s) it to end.”

I also think the reactions REDACTED has been getting in the media will bring lots of focus to the actual DIY footage out thereand possibly a newfound expectancy from the American public for truth to be spread without restrictions.

I don't agree with everything the film has to say--I'm unhappy with the war, but I think REDACTED's anti-war argument is extremely muddled. But my bigger problem with the film is that DePalma is piggy-backing on the work of documentarians and journalists who have culled testimony directly from the sources, often putting themselves in harms way to do so. Even that wouldn't be a problem if DePalma's film added something to the conversation, and wasn't poorly acted and generally unconvincing.

I think the point of the title is in reference to the fact that the actual footage this film is based on could not legally be shown in a documentary like NO END IN SIGHT.

You start your final paragraph:

I will say that Redacted, intentionally or otherwise, raises serious, scary questions about the makeup of an over-taxed volunteer army.

....ah, I just don't understand the overwelmingly negative attitude you have about this film. You seem to agree with everything it has to say. You seem to like the idea behind it. You don't like the final picture, why because Brian De Palma made it? Or is it because it isn't a documentary.

If I'm a dumbass please please set me strait, but I don't understand your logic.

Of course that was a horrible incident, but why is it that these Hollywood types can't seem to turn their cameras and talents on masked Middle Eastern men kidnapping civilians and gruesomely cutting their heads off on camera? Or captured American soldiers killed, dragged through the streets and then burned while hanging from street lamps? People being killed by the dozens by car bombs?

This is truly puzzling to me.
