I haven’t seen Ronnie Bronstein’s Frownland. I brought a screener home from Telluride with the intention of watching it last night, but then zonked out from a long day of travel before I had a chance to put it on. So I can’t vouch for it personally, but a handful of people whose opinions I trust already have. Paul interviewed Bronstein for FilmCouch after the director was named one of FILMMAKER Magazine’s 25 Filmmakers To Watch. David Lowery calls it “one of the most confrontational and uncompromising visions to emerge from the American independent scene in recent memory.” Michael Tully writes, “When I saw it at the Maryland Film Festival back in May and the final credit rolled, my only thought was, ‘THAT is how you motherfucking DO IT.’”
The film is screening tonight at the IFC Center, as part of a special “Dialogues on Film” event involving FILMMAKER’s Scott Macaulay and filmmaker Lodge Kerrigan. Go see it.
