I didn’t even know there *was* a trailer for Silent Light, but I stumbled across a double-subtitled version on YouTube, and now it’s embedded above. Admittedly, I’m just sickeningly in love with this movie so my opinion probably can’t be trusted, but I can’t imagine it being represented by a better trailer. In just eight shots, the above clip truly manages to mirror what it feels like to watch the film. I’m almost ready to step up and distribute Silent Light myself––how much do you think Reygadas wants for it? Do you think I could spread it over a couple of credit cards?
Sigh. I think my heart actually stopped for a second.
Very compelling. A lot of emotion in 1:50. Kind of feels like Jesse James, but I’ve had that on the brain since seeing it. So much so I’m going again this weekend.
A blog post about film trailer that ends with the words “I think my heart actually stopped for a second.” is almost certainly one for the books. I mean, the film ought to be. And I think you’ve just managed to transfer some of the Silent light over to me. Thanks a lot! Now, I hope someone like you will distribute it here in Scandinavia.
Oh, I’m so glad to hear you guys like it! Every year, there are one or two films that I just completely fall in love with. I really like Jesse James, but even that didn’t hit me as hard as Silent Light. I’m more sad than mad that it doesn’t have US distribution–I know it’s a terrible commercial bet, but it just saddens me that in the current market, there’s almost no way to make it available to those few who might want it.
My anticipation just keeps going up. This certainly doesn’t help matters any! Karina, maybe you can take those credit cards and split the bill with the Benten guys..
geez. oh. pete. this trailer makes me want to pack up and return to new york immediately, based solely on the possibilit of being able to catch a glimpse of the film. unless of course it will be screening in mississippi in the near future.
[...] spied the trailer over at the excellent Spout blog and though i’d repost it here… beautiful [...]
I went to the premiere of the movie yesterday in mexico city. Like you i was in heaven. Reygadas seems confident the movie will get to the US early next year.

I saw this movie in Chicago Film Festival last night, and it is one of the best films I have seen in my life-time. It absolutely blew me away with its simplicity and beauty and spirituality. It takes a very very talented director to be able to pull off this subject matter and my hat’s off to that person. This film deserves an Oscar.
count my credit card in, too.
