Thanks so much for the post! I've been so excited to see this film.
I think it is a great marketing campaign; all of P.T. Anderson's films have done it to attract viewers. On films like Magnolia and Punch-Drunk-Love they've played off the star power that Adam Sandler and Tom Cruise brought to the projects to sell tickets. With this, they are effectively setting you up for a genre film with the trailer. Yes, it's about oil, with any luck most people will have seen that going into it. But the constant mood that the trailer sets forth is so incredibly intriguing, and the title creates more of that mystery. Is it misleading? I don't think so. Hopefully this film delivers much more than anyone could expect from the title alone.
