FilmCouch #66 - Care Bears and Iraq

The Care Bears, Iron Man and Morgan Spurlock are Hollywood's new political mavericks

When a laugh is more powerful than a tear. The Care Bears Big Wish Movie, Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? and, possibly, Iron Man share a common theme. A quiet–almost subliminal appeal–to an audience seeking a straight shot of entertainment asking them to drop apathy and get involved in a troubled world. A new subversive cinema (that I wrote about earlier this week), which isn’t a filmmaker sneaking a message past Hollywood executives, but past a message-weary audience.

i subscribed about 2 months ago to your podcast.

i like it but i often loose track and interest because i didn’t catch the first 8 seconds and i spend the other 20 minutes hoping someone will mention the movie in discussion. Even if i have herd of the movie it is still uncertain as to what the movie is about.
I shun blockbusters and would rather spend my money on indi films but i often feel lost in the intellectual philosophical conversation as there is no premise. Maybe you could mention the name of the film, the director and the topic a couple times thought the show. And the general jist of the movie. I know i can hit pause. i just get distracted and my mp3 player makes it a pain to reverse.

I’m a listener to the podcast and I’ve tried leaving a voicemail couple of times on your new hotline but I was unable to. Each time I call the number, there’s a busy signal.

Either there’s a technical problem, or your voicemail phone line is always jammed. Please look into this so that people like me can sound off at you guys.
