I was in college, and I had been looking forward to it, but just before it came out the buzz was SO bad that I skipped it. It wasn't until a week later a lady friend of mine said it was the best movie she had ever seen. She drug my girlfriend and I to it, and (maybe because of my low expectations) I was absolutely blown away. edog, Batman absolutely came out with bad buzz. I was in college, and I had been looking forward to it, but just before it came out the buzz was SO bad that I skipped it. Buzz about Ahnold, and two supporting characters not even being actors (rather a surfer (Gerry Lopez) and a dancer (Sandahl bergman), if I'm not mistaken) coupled with protests over using tripwires on the horses (it was shot in Spain, I think). Sure people were confused about the Keaton casting, but when the first preview hit TV, sometime around the Superbowl, about 5 months before the movie came out, it was pure Bat-hysteria.
