The Playlist point to this “teaser” trailer for David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which spins on the wildly exciting premise that the wisdom and life experience of an old man could travel in the body of a young(ish) Brad Pitt. The trailer is long, slow, and almost dialogue free. We can only hope the movie follows suit.
I think every trailer should be set to Saint-Saens’ The Aquarium. It’s one of my favorite pieces of all time.
I’m looking forward to the movie, and I think this is one of the best trailers I’ve seen in a while.
I can’t figure out how it’s going to work. Are they going to
splice in outtakes from Thelma & Louise or something? Or are they
relying on that “we’ve weirdly, digitally removed the lines from
your face, a la X-Men 3″ technology. Either way, I’m interested
to see if they pull it off.
Ryan: Apparently, principle photography has been done for a year, and they’ve been working on digital effects since then. But I think the bulk of the movie takes place when he’s, like, 30-50, so they don’t have to do much.
Ryan, didn’t you see the trailer for The Guru where Mike Myers’ face is planted on a child’s body? Hopefully that’s what they’ll do here, too.
The trailer for this ran before Indiana Jones and I thought it just looked hauntingly beautiful. Probably the film I want to see the most this year now.
And I don’t care how they handle Pitt when he’s young, the makeup when he’s an old boy is totally freaky.
Mike Myers wasn’t significantly de-aged, though, they just planted his face onto a little body. There’s a huge difference between that and making an actor look 22 again. Creating photo-real effects for the human face is often described as the holy grail of digital effects technology. Once they can do that, that’s when you’ll start to see Marilyn Monroe starring in movies again and Cate Blanchett being able to play 25 year olds in films if you want. Whole new world.
In regards to how people perceive his performances in movies, is Brad Pitt ever going to escape his looks or how he looks in a movie? I just find it funny how every time a Brad Pitt movie comes out, the first thing that people talk about is not his acting but his appearance.
Ryan, I was actually joking.
