The Dark Knight is hands down the best Batman movie yet, but has Christopher Nolan painted himself into a corner by using up the only viable Batman villains? Most of the Batman villains left are either too campy (the Penguin, the Ventriloquist), depend too much on flexible comic book logic (Clayface, Killer Croc), or are just watered-down versions of the Joker (the Riddler, the Mad Hatter).
Tim Burton’s Batman featured The Joker (Jack Nicholson) for good reason. The Clown Prince of Crime, always Batman’s most threatening foe, represents (among many things) an unwillingness to take human life seriously. In that moral void his vibrant personality explodes like a fireworks display of mania, menace, and eccentricity. The Joker is the calling card of chaos and evil at its sexiest. Batman isn’t the reason we watch Batman over and over again, the Joker is. Of course Michael Keaton brings gravitas to Batman, but let’s face it–as sweet as Batman is, he’s just not good company. Ever notice how passengers in the Batmobile feel like they’re at the end of a bad date?
Batman is the control and the villain is the variable, and we all know the movies between Batman and Batman Begins are failed experiments. Danny DeVito as a mutant Penguin, Tommy Lee Jones as Two Face, JIm Carrey as the Riddler, Arnold Swarzenegger as Mr. Freeze: none of these villains grab hold and shake the imagination like the mighty Joker.
I’m wary of Nolan making a third Batman movie. Is there an actor capable of making the Riddler a force to be reckoned with? Or like some bloggers are saying, would the obscure villain Anarky be the best fit for capping off Nolan’s trilogy? Anarky sounds a bit like V in V for Vendetta, a highly principled and violent anarchist who destroys “for the people.” I would watch that, but I don’t think for a second the film would be as good as The Dark Knight.
As far as I’m concerned, Batman’s story pretty much begins and ends with the Joker. That’s why even though I loved Batman Begins and adored The Dark Knight, I’d almost prefer that Christopher Nolan stop making Batman movies.
PS - every drink I have today will be a toast to Heath Ledger.
We must have seen a different movie than you. This movie and the atrocious acting was a horrendous joke. The box office refused to refund my family of the money we spent and now we are poorer by 50 dollars and more so by our social worth.
Well .. I have just one question for you all … If the Penguin was brought back to the show .. who can deliver better than deVito ? .. Hedger really shines over Nicholson … so .. is there someone to outshine devito ???
I agree with you on Heath Ledger’s portrayal. It was the best Joker I have ever seen and exactly what I hoped it would be, but if Nolan has done so well so far, I’d give him a chance. Obviously there is no way he can top such a multi-climactic movie as “The Dark Knight” but he might be able to tie Batman up in this last movie, making it more satisfying for the fans than “The Dark Knight”. Because, in truth we really want Batman to be happy or at least satisfied with his life and as of right now he isn’t. The Joker opened up to him a world where people hold no sanctity over human life. I completely agree about the rest of the villains. But Nolan might try to recreate one of the female villains like Poison Ivy or Cat Woman. Perhaps a duo team? “The Joker is the calling card of chaos and evil at its sexiest .” But I will leave it at what you said and I agree with that statement whole heartedly.
I disagree. Josh Harnett for the Riddler. Lets say we can bring back Two-Face; he was great. Charlize Theron as Poison Ivy. There are so many dark DC villains they could do. Just wait. 3 will be grittier and darker than this one.
Adam, I have to disagree. The latest Batman film was spectacular and to me, the single greatest comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger’s performance was so outstanding, that yes, it will be very difficult to follow, but not impossible. I was pleased to see them kill off “Two Face” in the Dark Knight because I actually couldn’t see his character (as it was in the film) living up to Ledger’s Joker over the course of an entire movie. Knowing Two Face was in this film, but not knowing that he gets offed before seeing it originally had me to believe it was a set-up to use him as the next villain. But where you say the other traditional Batman villians are just too campy to be viable I have to disagree. Before Ledger’s performace of the Joker, that character too was incredibly campy. A darker spin can easily be applied to the Riddler, Penguin or Catwoman if it is written correctly and applied by the right actor. I saw “The Dark Knight” tonight and it is very fresh in my head. When I got home the first Keaton Batman was on ABC Family channel and I watched a bit. Looking back, Jack’s version of the Joker was incredibly campy too, and a lot closer to Ceasar Romero’s TV Joker than to Ledger’s newer spin on the character. Quite comical actually. Don’t get me wrong, Jack is a great, legendary actor but his version was campy too. My favorite Batman villain was always the Riddler so I’d like to see this explored by the right actor. Jim Carrey’s version in Batman Forever is a complete wimp, but that is the fault of the writer and director. Carrey played it like Jim Carrey would… FUNNY. Imagine an actor with the depth of Sean Penn putting a dark spin on a character like the Riddler. With the right writers, Nolan directing and the right actor, it could be brilliant again.
I think that the movies might die any way because you need the Joker for other villians to be born. he sets the bar and many times he creates the villians batman faces. EX-Clayface, Two-Face
Jokers plots also somtimes cause some villians to be released to Gothams ever crumbling city. EX-Vien one of my favorites. So the truth is without someone being able to step up to the role of Joker they can’t create a proper batman movie.
your all homoes, the movie was great, and as far as the dude with the fifty dollar comment goes, why dont you get up off your fat lazy ass and make a movie your self so someone else can comment on your work chump! f ur family fat boy ohh yeah and atrocious were did you learn that word, dude get a muther f??cking life and stop judging good movies before i personally hunt you down and beat you with a box set of batman movies to a pulp……….. peace n??ga
Just saw the film and I thought it was excellent. Heath was great as the Joker but the surprise for me was Harvey Dent/Two-Face. I loved Aaron’s performance. And as much as I liked The Dark Knight I still hold Batman Begins a little higher because I went into that movie with no expectations (especially after the last two craptacular Batman films) and was completely blown away by how good it was. This one I knew was going to be good.
I’d like to see him get into the BANE storyline where Batman is almost killed. Leading to possibly the Azreal character taking over for an installment as we watch bruce wayne recover. I think 2 face will be back, there are rumors already that he didn’t die, Gordon hid him at the asylum. The question is, will they bring in a new Joker? If so, who could do it?
As far as a “new joker” i think that would be a terrible idea after seeing a brilliant masterpiece that ledger put forth, no one could live up to that and it wouldnt be fair to that actor or to heath. That said, days after his death there were already rumors out there that actors like Johnny Depp called Christopher Nolan and offered their services to play the joker as a tribute to heath ledger so who knows. i think someone like depp or sean penn would be perfect to play villians in these darker grittier versions of batman but which ones??? tough to say, Two Face…at least this version doesnt compare at all to the joker…idk that any villian will compare, its really a shame that such a great talent as ledger is gone so soon because I think they had the potential to really rebuild and revive the Batman franchise into a powerhouse with Heath’s Joker behind the wheel.
Johnny Depp as the Joker would be AWESOME!! if you had told me going in that Johnny Depp would be the Joker in the Dark Knight I would have believed you. If you had told me it was Ledger I wouldn’t have.
Johnny Depp would be the perfect Joker. He is that kind of actor. Look at some of the roles he has already had in the past!
I believe that catwoman will be in the next batman. It makes perfect sense… Nolan will want a strong female character in the film. If you’ve seen the dark knight, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
In the comics, catwoman’s origins started as an abused girl and Frank Miller even portrayed her as a prostitute. I believe that this would fit in well with Nolan’s formula for the batman films. Have her as an abused girl or prostitute who was abused by one of gotham’s criminals or one of the mafia guys. When she become’s catwoman, she is focused on riding gotham of these types of criminals. In the comics, catwoman was sometimes written as a heroine rather than villain and what’s interesting with catwoman is that she follows her own moral code similar to how batman does as well. However, her version of vigilante justice is more extreme than batman’s. Where he does not believing in killing any villain, catwoman believes that this is the only type of justice these criminals deserve. This would serve as the context of the conflict between batman and catwoman.
I also believe that the next batman film will have a strong focus on the character of Bruce Wayne, the man behind the mask. Batman Begins saw Bruce Wayne construct himself into the batman, The Dark Knight focused heavily on the batman, I believe the next film will see Nolan deconstruct batman back down and focus a lot on Bruce. Nolan gave us a glimpse of this in the Dark Knight as he portrayed a Bruce Wayne as someone who was starting to question the purpose and role of masked hero in gotham. Catwoman’s true identity as Selina Kyle would be a perfect fit in the movie to serve as Bruce Wayne’s love interest.
Keeping with the focus on Bruce Wayne, I also believe that the next movie will see Batman face the challenge of trying to protect his real identity as Bruce. Again, the Dark Knight showed us a glimpse of this plot.
If this is the case, I believe the second villain in the next movie will be the Black Mask. He would also fit very well in with Nolan’s formula for villains, dark and gritty. Black Mask would introduce an refreshing and interesting take to the movies. Unlike the other villains who have a vendetta against batman, in the comics, black mask was focused on destroying bruce wayne. This would open up the next film alot since not only will we see batman battle for his life but bruce as well. In the comics, catwoman stole money from the black mask and the two did battle. The next film could also portray catwoman discovering that black mask was the one responsible for ruining the life of Selina Kyle and ultimately giving birth to catwoman.
This would serve as the focus of the battles between batman and the two villains. Batman faces his greatest challege yet as he battles a villain who is serving her own brand of vigilante justice and a gotham crime boss who threatens the live’s of the city’s people and that of Bruce wayne.
I heard that David Tennant (doctor Who)
displayed interest in playing the riddler, I had to think for a second, and i concluded that he might play a nice part (just look at harry potter,
he could pull it off, he can act when he tries, and ya know all the doctor who fans will see it, but still, no one can beat heath… and how the hell did spider man 3 make it to the top of the box office last year?
Hmm… reading through these, I just thought I’d mention that there’s on female villian everyone forgot to mention. Let’s face the facts and realize here the the Joker in The Dark Knight was PHENOMENAL, no one could beat Heath for that part. But Joker had a sidekick after that whole mishap. If I recall, he get’s sent to the asylum (because in the Dark Knight, he was just left “hanging around” if you catch my drift) where he meets his new sidekick, Harley Quinn… aka, the best female villian in the whole Batman series (Ivy and Catwoman sucked, get over it). Will Harley Quinn make it to any of the Batman movies though? That’s question, especially if Heath is dead now, and well, there’s not really a better actor out there fit to continue that role (Johnny Depp?…)
I personally think that they did a little foreshadowing in this movie when they were reworking batman’s suit and discussing its ability to keep him safe against dogs… Does anyone else remember the reference to cats? Catwoman in my opinion has a pretty good chance of making an appearance in the next movie.
So very sad but so very true. I totally agree with everything you said. Joker and Batman are Ying and Yang. And as for Johnny being the Joker… I sure hope not.
Johnny Depp as the Riddler.
Forget the usual suspects! You want to kill Batman? The only name you need to know is Grendel.
i think that johnny depp’s acting skill would certainly be up to par but as for the look and the very distinctive facial characteristics i don’t think that that he would look the part. i also don’t believe that he could perform the laugh that ledger did, he did an outstanding job on that.
First of all…TWO FACE is not dead. He was breathing when he was “ofed.” Aaron Eckhart signed a 2 movie deal. Batman and Gordon talk about hiding him. If you know the comics, TWO FACE has surgery and becomes DENT again as DA and nobody knows about 2 face. Dent freaks out and cuts his face back off, b/c he is mentally freaked out.
I can see 2 face wanting to kill the Joker at Arkham. And that is where Harley Quinn comes into play. I believe that Harley Quinn will have a doing with 2 face. The joker may have somewhat of a cameo.
I believe that 2FACE comes back bigger than ever as a hero/villan.
Also, remember Ra’s Al Ghul? In the comics, he is a master of escaping death. It never showed him die. He maybe escaped death. After all, he trained Bruce/Batman. So a love intrest with Bruce would be TAlia Al Ghul. So, 2Face will stop Ra’s from taking over Gothom, Talia will be Bruce’s love intrest and Ra’s will be after Batman. Ra’s did not want Talia to be with Batman/Bruce because of his weakness for justic. So, technically… I see Ra’s Al Ghul and Two Face as villans. Talia Al Ghuel as Bruce Waynes love intrest. Batman saves gothom from Ra’s Al Ghul and Two Face. I see a three way war between the three foes. I see Talia being Ofed by Two Face. Ra’s is the only villan who knows batmans true identity, which may make a darker movie. If 2Face finds out Batman is Bruce…It may get a little darker in gothom.
What do ya think?
Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman is not ready. Chris Nolan knows this. Chris Nolan knows that the next director can do the cartoon like villans.
PS
Read the comics. Chris Nolan has based the movie off the original comics, not cartoons. Did you know that the Joker was originally “The Red Hood?”
ok i didnt read any of the comments but i read the whole article and i like what u have to say except one thing . You were talkin bout the ridler and how he couldnt realy live up to the joker cuz Heath Ledger is GOD! but anyway i just ran by one of those little side comment on this page i someone said johnny depp ….. point is what about him as Edward Nighma . Heath Ledger outshines anyone in a batman movie EVER! but johnny depp as a more sadistic darker riddler then jim carrey in “forever” … in my opinion it would work
ohh and one other thing , as much as Christian Bale makes u forget about “Robbin” why not introduce him in the next film huh?…. The Flying Gracense fall, and Dick lives in the maynor
I just figured it out. Chris Nolan casts his movies with great actors that perfrom well. Chris Nolan uses a lot of his actors in different films.
The next villan is the RIDDLER played by…………Hugh Jackman??????????
Can you see that? If not, it should be a good cast. Chris Nolan has not cast a character that anyone would have guessed so far.
Did anyone guess Christian Bale as BATMAN, AARON ECKHART as TWO FACE, Heath Ledger as JOKER, Liem Neeson as Ra’s Al Ghul. Hugh Jackman would be a great cast and he is a dark character. Watch the Prestige (Chris Nolan movie with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman).
My cast picks for future BATMAN flicks:
TWO FACE: Aaron Eckhart
RIDDLER: Hugh Jackman
HARLEY QUINN: Kristen Bell
PENGUIN: Phillip Seymor Hoffman
CATWOMAN: Charlize Theron
POISON IVY: Mena Suvari
MR FREEZE: Sean Bean
RA’S AL GHUL: Liem Neeson
TALIA AL GHUL: Jennifer Connley
MANBAT: Gerard Butler
MAD HATTER: Johnny Depp
i think the only person that even comes close to playing the joker in the next movie would be DEPP but even then it will not be the same and it would piss me off. i dont think the joker should be in the next movie simply because no one could ever do as well a job as ledger did. the joker was simply amazing. and to the guy thats poorer by 50 bucks you obviously saw the wrong movie. the dark knight is the best damn movie ever and the heath joker is the best damn villan in existence. im utterly depressed of ledgers passing. the joker misses him. the next batman movie is going to be a joke ,no pun intended, compared to this one
I for one keep thinking that while the Joker as Ledger performed it is the best villian ever in Batman history, a lot of credit needs to be given to the style in which these are written. Almost everyone thought that there is no way that he would be better than Jack, and guess what he WAS FOR SURE. On top of that, while he may be dead, and not to stomp on a dead mans grave, but it is not like Heath Ledger was the best actor in the world and no one else can act as well as him. I am up for Depp as the Riddler…Daniel Day Lewis as Joker in the next one (have him do brief cameo parts etc to get him reintroduced) why not… the only reason he is considered completly irreplaceable is because Heath died, what if he refused to do the role again, do you think they wouldn’t have made another Joker.
If there were to be a third movie I think they should stay away from the joker all together. Why make someone follow Ledger’s performance. It would be unfair. I think the best way to complete the story would be to introduce Bain. The real Bain. The full story line would be to much for a feature length movie but the introduction of a villian who is physically stronger and at least as smart as batman would be the perfect way to complete the trilogy.
Heath Ledger was brilliant as The Joker. He completely redefined the character after the atrocious campy style that Jack had put on him in Burton’s 1989 film. To me, and I’m sure millions out there Heath Ledger didn’t play The Joker, he WAS The Joker. The smartest thing Christopher Nolan did was assemble a killer cast who could act, and he and his brother wrote a killer screenplay. They made us all believe that in The Dark Knight Batman could really exist in our world. To me saying it was a comic book movie dismisses the brilliance of what The Dark Knight is. It’s Heat, Godfather, Seven, all those classic films rolled into one. Also Harvey Dent is DEAD! Two Face on the other hand is alive and well and locked up in Arkham, that’s why he will be back for the 3rd film. The Joker will be re-cast. I don’t think it would be disrepecting Heath Ledger’s out of this world performance but whoever they cast I just hope they build on what Heath Ledger created. Johnny Depp would be good, he’s got that crazy, quirky style that would fit The Joker. Personally I’d love to see Adrien Brody. He’s a great actor, he’s gangly, and he could create another Joker to remember. Daniel Day Lewis would also be brilliant as he too is a class actor, but perhaps he’s too old. I would love to see one of my personal fav villians make he proper screen appearance and that would be BAIN. And play him the way he was in Knightfall.
I agree with most things you’ve said. My only disagreement being your view on Christopher Nolan’s involvement in future flicks. I would be very wary of seeing another Batman movie if he weren’t at the helm. I think he is the reason the films have evolved into believable, interestingly profound and entertaining films, instead of just entertaining. I mean, he writes, directs and produces … he is The Man behind its success. I fully support him making the next one.
The way I see things after watching the TDK. I was mainly happy that Ledger was able to finish his performance. All this talk about how playing ‘The Joker’ made him go off the rail into basically dying from playing that role is absurd. I don’t want to sound selfish here, because well I’m speaking about a person’s life, a very talented actor to be exact. We’re really lucky that Heath was able to finish The Dark Night. After TDK, Heath was filming The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and well he was never able to finish that project, which now has actors filling his place and paying homage to him. What if Heath had died in the middle of filming TDK? What would be the situation of TDK? Would it have gotten even released? They would have had to fill Heaths place some how. We should all be grateful that Heath was able to finish TDK. But, to me Heath seemed to be a dedicated actor, from interviews I’ve read and seen. He’s always had seen acting as an ‘Art’ and not something to get a crack at fame and a huge paycheck from. I know that a lot of you think that recasting the role would tarnish Heaths Legacy as the Joker. But, this film was EPIC, it went to show to all those who think Comics made into movies are for kids and not something to be appreciated when done the right way. And TDK shut all those critics up. And, that was thanks to Heath Ledgers portrayal of The Joker. I think Heath if he was still here he would be filled with gratitude at how everyone has appreciated his work, but yet I think where ever he is now he’d want to see someone else take the rains, someone worthy of course with great acting skills to put their special twist like he did on The Joker. So, that being said I don’t mind so much if The Joker is recast as long as the person is capable of doing an incredible job as Heath did. But, no one will ever be able to pull it off as Heath did, that’s a fact. But, I fully support Nolan’s future choices, if he even decides to make a third. Whatever he does, I’ll go watch it. I know that it’ll be good, because remember the actors don’t make the movie entirely the writing and the vision of the director completes it.
i think it all depends on who they cast for the part, if they can find someone to do as good a job with the riddler as ledger did with the joker i would definately want to see that movie. I think, with the right person, the riddler could be very dark. and im tired of people saying ” i hated the acting in dark knight blah blah blah” because ledger was the only one that acted in the movie. The rest of the characters didnt have to do anything. Rachel was in about two scenes which did not require a lot of talent. Fox’s character doesnt take much talent. Bruce Wayne/ Batman was fighting the entire time or screaming at somebody (no acting whatsoever). The movie was great and heath ledger stole the show period, conversation over.
they seemed to pull of casting maggie gyllenhaul as racheal, replacing katie holmes and nobody complained. i think with enough dedication and work ethic someone else could recreate the joker at least half way decent. I know no one can live up to heath, but to enhance a story line for a possible third movie, an actor can possibly pull off recreating the joker character for a short cameo…
to say that no one will ever be as good in the roll of the joker is foolish at best. Heath played a great Joker because of the vision that he was given by the director. Let’s not put Ledger on a pedistal just because he is dead. The roll can be taken and mastered by the next person that a top notch casting director chooses to plant in the roll. As far a villians go, none shine brighter that the joker. That being said, it may be vital to the longevity of the franchise to bring the joker back for at least a “Guest” appearnce. Maybe he will never be seen and portraied as a “string puller” and not a flesh and bonee charecter.
Villians:
Mr/Dr. freeze: Lame and too childish.
The Penguin: Sinister but to real enough to fit into Nolan’s Gotham
Two face: more of a support role, not unlike Robin to Batman.
The Riddler: Able to play the audience like the Joker. May be more Ceribral a villian which may make an interesting turn. May be able to match witts with batman. Able to strike fear if he is not portray as a Jim Carey meets Matthew Lesko.
Cat Woman: A good suplimental charecter (Like Two Face). May bring a charisma and sex appeal to a which ever main villian she is paired with.
So based on the findings and potential realism and darkness brought forth with Nolan’s Batman, I would say that The Riddler is the best option, with perhaps a suppliment from Cat Woman an a recasted Joker Cameo. The Riddler would be the at exploiting batman’s newly earned position of Gotham’s latest Pariah.
Food for thought.
i think they should replace heath as the joker for the next film, i mean seriously they replaced racheal and that turned out ok. some of you guys are gonna think that it wouldnt be fair to his memory when probably all of you were getting sick of his death being all over the news…heath ledger this and heath ledger that, but right when you see this movie then you suddenly care and feel bad about his death.so i think that they should just replace him with a look-alike,because if you actually look you’ll be surprised with what you see.
sorry jerbear if it looks like im copying you, but i didnt even read yours till i read mine
ok, so Depp could Play the riddler, but I see him playing him more like… well… take Willy Wonka and Jack sparrow, and bash their heads together. You see the delema. You may as well get Carlos Mancia to Play him as “La Riddler”.
I could see someone more aristicratic playing the riddler, like Alan Rickman.
I guess you could have Depp as the riddler, but who plays the Penguin? Jack Black? I mean, get real.
Before you talk about the new villain you have to look at the style of the two movies together. What have both bad guys in both movies been willing to do? Kill a lot of people/ destroy the city to get to their objective. What is batman’s weakness? the people he cares about. The girlfriend got killed off and he needs someone to throw him off and question his path. Michelle Pfeiffer was one of the best if not the best story arcs in the tim burton movies. If you could bring in a high society type from out of town. Also look at who nolan likes to cast, he does not cast many USA actors, he will keep to type. Bain is a good story arc but I don’t think it could be pulled off in one movie. Batman will have to question again and be thrown off his path, people around him and the city he protects need to be threatened. He will fall in love but it will interfere with his path he has chosen. And he will continue to have to come to grips with the fact that he himself has caused the new set of problems, that he has changed things in the jokers words. he will go threw trials, be defeated, question and then in the end he will rise up and be victorious and be comfortable in the roll he has taken on. If it is going to be the riddler it has to be a physically imposing riddler. Nolan has certainly re-imagined it with success so far, the only real problem is that we are going to have to wait 3 years to see it.
its okay. great minds think alike.
I don’t think Nolan will bring in anyone like the Penguin or Riddler in the next movie. I think the next batman will still have the Joker (sad that it wouldn’t be Ledger) and Two-Face because these two are Batman’s biggest villians and neither of them died in the Dark Knight. I also think that if Nolan continues to direct Batman then he will introduce a new character like catwoman or possibly the riddler at the end of the next film, not just appear in the beginning. It’s too early for the Joker to end because he is truly Batmans biggest villian and in the comics he is caught by Batman multiple times and still comes back. Also, there’s no way that Two-Face isn’t in the next movie when he was just introduced. Remeber in Batman Begins when Scarecrow was hit in the face with a taser and then he was back in the Dark Knight? He’s not dead yet either…
Another Joker! please no one can Top of Heith Ledgers role. Depp would make a good Riddler, sadistic and sarcastic but they should turn the Riddler character more darker.
And my opinion Catwoman may appear in the next movie beacuse of the reference in the movie… An 2 face is NOT DEAD
it was a great movie and now the joker, heath, is my hero
the next movie should be about the penguin. I don’t think the movie will be too comical looking with this character. Basically how it would go is it is a year or so after dark knight and all is going well for gotham. That is until the penguin is let out of arkam asylum on “good behavior” after serving 35 years for commiting murder on several accounts. When he gets out he pays a visit to his old partner from long ago Salvatore Maroni who is still in the hospital after that freak accident with two face. The penguin seeks revenge on him for narking him out on all the murders they both commited to make it to the top of Gotham’s underworld. with the penguin back in business he slowly lifts his empire off the ground and gives batman and the commish gordon a run for their money. The problem for batman and gordon is that they cannot link any of the rising crime back to the penguin. Once again chaos reigns in Gotham city. Why I think this would work well is the penguin does not have to be overly dressed to play the part like he was in batman returns. This character would fit very well in Nolan’s repetuare. His features would be a short pudgy man with a wobble limp that he got from polio as a kid. His nose could be naturaly pointed not over done and he can have your typical penguin laugh that is caused by some kind of lung disease that he picked up in the joint. The one thing about the penguin is he is all about class. He dresses and talks with class. When he returns to power he brings a touch of the 1930’s back with him and expects his gangs to follow suite or take a bullet to the head, their choice.
ohh and by the way just think joe pesci from good fellas minas some of the swears.
I saw a lit like this one earlier and this would be my picks for villians that may be in future films.
Catwoman: Kate Beckensale
Penguin: James Gandolfini
Joker(2): Johnny Depp
Two Face: Aaron Eckhart
Riddler: Edward Norton
Harley Quinn: Faruza Balk
Poion Ivy: Parker Posey
Mr.Freeze: Ben Kingsley
I don’t care what any of you people say Tim Burton should direct the next Batman movie and Johnny Depp should play the Joker.
i bet its like this
joker and 2 face in the crazy house
and 2 face makes friends with the riddler and joker sum how manipulates them and they all escape later 2 face kills sum people or joker n robin comes along or nightwing
n then idk or harley quinn is in the crazy house or she helps them escape
I do have to agree with you that the Joker is the best villan, but you have to remember that the Joker did not die in the new movie. Eventhough Ledger would not be playing, the Joker could make a return and match up with the Riddler and make a formidable duo.
andy serkis will be the riddler, he was in the prestige that nolan directed after the batman begins. Nolan will stay true to type and cast people he knows and people he has worked with, and with all the past stuff serkis has done this will be a breakout roll for him.
I agree with Donn. Andy Serkis would be awesome as The Riddler. He played Gollum and King Kong, did an amazing job, even though what we eventually saw was the CGI versions. The Joker should be re-cast, no doubts. He’s a main player in the Batman mythos. You can’t have future Batman films and not have The Joker. I loved Heath Leadger’s Joker, it was a brilliant tour de force performance, he’s best along w/ Ennis Del Mar. But Heath didn’t own The Joker character. Someone of real acting pedigree could do a brilliant job. I wouldn’t want them to JUST copy what Heath did, but add to it, bring some of their own ideas into the character and truly build on what Heath began. As for a new villian, The Riddler is definitely the best option. He can be as believable in our world as The Joker was in The Dark Knight. Forget the rest of the villians for now. Stay with The Joker, Two Face and The Riddler. I also agree with some of the comments posted that Nolan should make The Riddler darker, more sinister and deadly but super smart like so he can match witts with Batman. He’d make a great foe. I still believe after the 3rd Nolan Batman WB should make stand alone Batman films, getting different directors who can canvas their own ideas into a movie, like Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. An older Batman, Joker etc. You can’t keep making sequeals, but stand alones would really work well. Different visions, different cast.
I’d love to see BAIN appear be it could be hard to cast.
You are a dumb noob. Fuck ledger. Cheers to him moar dumbass.
I would have to say that te Joker does complete Batman. There are still a lot of things they can do, someone else can take the role, Heath’s performance was great but Nolan made the Joker come alive as well. I trust Nolan and I think he can bring a great trilogy with another great movie, The Dark Knight Returns… they can bring in Harley Quinn and the Riddler, Two-Face should stay dead though and keep the storyline straight, I’d like to see Catwoman fight Harley… a good ol’ cat fight. The mutants would be good as well as Carrie Kelley possibly becoming the next Robin? Whatever Nolan does im sure it wont be as bad as the previous installments….
the 50 dollar guy can suck it i had to get that of my chest but give johnny depp some credit if he can be the best pirate ever he can definitley be the 2nd greatest villain with the riddler + christopher nolan is taking this franchise into a dark and more gritty film base so personally(and hopefully) i really hope he doesnt use catwoman or any girl villain for that matter. sorry but there just not good. johnny depp could last an entire movie with bale so why not?
hugh jackman would destroy as the riddler but hes already wolverine and hes a marvel guy not a DC guy give it to depp
Lets face it, we are comparing characters from one set of films to the current set. It is pointless because Batman Forever and Batman & Robin had different target audiences and were not intended to be “dark”.
For me Nolan could use the Riddler, Two Face, Penguin, whoever in the next film if it comes out. Why? Because the way he writes the scripts, the characters are dark and if he picked the Riddler he wouldn’t be the joke that was Carey’s Riddler.
So for me it is pointless comparing the Riddler in Batman Forever to being in this series. As both had different target audiences, Forever was made for kids, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, well are intended for adults or at the least, teenagers.
But I’d like to see Mr Freeze personally. But Riddler wouldn’t be a bad shout, nor would Bane. But it depends on if you want it to be a realistic series or not. If realistic then you might rule at Freeze and potentially Bane. If it doesn’t matter then either could be put in the role.
The riddler would be great in the next film. I can see Depp as the riddler. I think the riddler should be like DAVID BOWIE in LABYRINTH…except a more believable and dark BOWIe
First of all, as everyone has already said, Heath Ledger was amazing. wasn’t sure when i heard he would be the joker but WOW he proved me wrong.
As for next villains no one has mentioned scarecrow, he is still around. i thought they did a great job with him in the first film and cillian murphy can be quite chilling at times. obviously he is not a main villain but i would like to see him in some role.
i really can’t see any good villains for the next film. you’re right about penguin, riddler and all that.
Probably bring back two face altough i liked it that they SEEMED to kill him off in the end.
“if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”
chris nolan has used christian bale and michael caine in previous movies, both playing similar roles. caine was bales mentor/teacher/father figure in the prestige like he has been in nolans batman movies.
just checked imdb.com for nolans previous films and actors he has used Guy Pearce, Carrie Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, Al Pacino, Robin Williams & Hillary Sawnk, Andy Serkis, Scarlett Johansson, David Bowie, .
You reckon any of them could play a role if future movies??? maybe guy pearce or and serkis as a darker, more sinister riddler, johnny depp could be intresting. how about Joe Pantoliano as the penguin?
nolans movies have been made for a different audience than batman forever & batman + robin so don’t rule out any role just yet. he redid the joker didnt he? he redid the whole batman franchise and made it a compelling crime action/thriller . . . not just another comic book adap like dare devil or the fantastic four
anyone agree with anything that ive said??
I’d like to see Prometheus and Bane that would be cool and possibly worth while.
They could always bring back Ra’s al Ghul just like the comics too.
or johnny depp as Captain Stingaree.
Randy Savage as Bane also.
While I agree that Ledger was a great Joker (clearly the way they ended it they thought they could get one more out of Ledger ihmo). I think there is one more villian Nolan can use, catwoman. Angelina Jolie wouldn’t be a option i think. They even made a reference to cats (when discussing his new armor). The scarecrow could still have a mild part again.
would be an option**
I don’t think it will be hard to come by if Nolan sticks to his plausible “real world” approach to the series. Penguin could work if they nail the character down as an intimidating mobster as opposed to the bird-man concept. Riddler can be a hardlined terrorist whose patterns could be hard to track etc etc. If they avoid over the top costumes, make-up etc, it’ll probably work out.
Okay first of all, f**k the dude with the 50 dollar comment. Second of all, that movie was definetely the best movie of the year. I personally think that the two next best villians to bring in would be Bane and the new character, Hush. Bane is the only villians to ever break that Batman. Hush, however, is the only villian to make batman and the rest of the villians, including the joker, scared of him. His soul objective is to get revenge and kill Batman. If they do decide to bring back two-face, that would be fine but they would definitely need another villian, because it seems that two-face’s objective is just to get revenge of the death of rachel. Also, if they for some reason bring robin in the next story, that would be stupid. Because in nolan’s dark world of batman, it wouldn’t make sense for batman to bring in a kid to fight. Robin would just make batman worry and another distraction.
PS. Heath Ledger did an excellant job on the joker. there is actually not a word to describe how great of a job he did.
You all seem to leave out the fact that Nolan can make most of these “Campy” Villians into something more realistic and believable… He has pushed the envelope with Scarecrow, and Two-face. Even when it comes to the Joker, instead of making him some Mcdonalds clown with cheap gimmicks and ridicules gags and pranks, he made him into a deranged psycopath who found enjoyment in watching the city panic as he unleashed Anarchy into the streets. Scarecrow was only a product of drugs emitted into the air from a plant… Two-face was gasoline burns instead of the corny acid burn story… I think the Riddler, Bane, Mad hatter, Even gentleman ghost could be a possible villian… You all forget that they aren’t depicted entirely as they were in the comics… No one has laser beams or ridicules contraptions or fancy super powers in this movie… Bane could be a huge black man who uses a drug with the same affects of pcp, Mad hatter could be a street bum who managed to gain leverage over the other criminals by using his wit and mind games. Riddler could be someone who was inspired by the Joker and had his own ideas of fun. Gentleman ghost could have easily been a Schizo who finds enjoyment in the manipulation of Gothams criminals… I picture Ghost as a man in an old suit with sunken eyes and cracks and shattered teeth who uses similar methods as the scarecrow to make other criminals do his bidding through fear and his own wit… And if you all really want a good idea, I do believe it has already been brought up. Where is Harley Quinn? Maybe if Joker is actually dead or sealed up in Arkham, why can’s she be there to carry on the Joker’s work… Perhaps she looked up to him or was one of his favorite henchmen who decided to take the reigns and cause Gotham more hell… I know Nolan can make this work, with or without the Joker involved…
Daniel Day Lewis as the next Joker. Anybody that seen him in Gangs of New York & There Will Be Blood knows that the Joker would be an easy role for him to takeover & build upon; especially if it is only a supporting role next time around. IMO I think he would also be superior than Depp in the Riddler role as well. Although Depp isn’t a bad choice I don’t think he has the size it would take to pull it off.
The crazy guy from No Country for Old Men who’s name i forget would also play a good replacement Joker too. Ledger won’t be that hard to place with good acting & script writing. The movies will be years from now & the Joker character wears clown make up lol.
Like someone said earlier, James Gandolfini would be an interesting Penguin though he’s too tall. Anthony Hopkins anyone?
who is big enough to play Bane? You can’t use a wrestler (although Batista looks alot like the character) because you need to keep going with actors that have the chops…Temuera Morrison http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0607325/ is the only actor that I feel could pull it off. Anyone that has seen once were warriors can see alot of the inner turmoil that Bane has, along with the intimidating presence.

Crispin Glover should play the riddler. I can totally picture him as that role. Joker has to be brought into the next movie because duhhh its batman. I say Depp for Joker. Im not so sure as about bringing a female villian to Batman yet. Everytime i try to visualize it i can’t see the movie as dark as TDK
I’m guessing this could be writing off but did no one get the really tiny hint about the next villan? it is of course going to be catwoman, take your minds beck to when the new suit is being showed and bruce asks if it could stop a dog and fox responds “it could stop a cat”
Liem Neeson did not play Ra’s Al Ghul! Try watching Batman Begins again! Ra’s Al Ghul was killed by Bruce Wayne before he came back to Gotham. Johnny Depp as the Joker? Get real. He will not use the Joker again. He will not use the Penguin. He will not use Bane-Maybe the Riddler or Catwoman. He will only use characters that are well known. Bane, Clay Face,Mad Hatter and Mr Freeze will not be the next villians. Maybe all of you should watch both movies again before posting “factual” comments.
I feel that the movie was left open so that the Joker could make a return. If you read a comic you will know this right away. I think that the only person who lookes the part as well as heath did would be james franco. look at his new movie pineapple express….you will know what i mean.
First of all “shell”, Liam Neeson did play Ra’s Al Ghul you fool, the other guy was a cover-up, it was a title made so that the name would be immortal, no matter who took it. You try watching both the films before you make “factual” comments. Heath Ledger was amazing as “The Joker”, he was one of my favourite actors before the film but he really outshone everyone on set and somehow impressed me even more! Justin, I agree with you on the James Franco decision, he can play a dark character and doesn’t look very different from Heath himself, so with make-up it would be great. I think I’m warming up to the idea that there could be another “Joker”, despite how much I think Heath made the character his forever. The Riddler? The only person I could think of to play the him is Johnny Depp at the moment, but there will definitely be someone out there, Nolan will pick him (if in fact “The Riddler” is casted) and everyone will agree, because the guy is extremely good at casting these movies as he’s already proven. I think some characters could be brought to life that aren’t usually considered big villains, like “Black Mask”.
i think a black mask would be perfect for the next moive trying to film the power vacum left at the end of the dark knight
None of you are true fans. And as for the person who requested the refund, I request you end your life, that or ask your families opinion before you try to spend your next welfare check. For those few who knew what they were talking about, I commend you.
Also “James Franco”…. please, Look at Giovanni Ribisi…
My friend can do every facial expression of the Joker.. not only that but he can imitate the voice to the T. I know everyone thinks that Ledger had some godly last performance, but truth is. The role was a written role, that he studied and perfected. He made some of it his own, but any good actor can do that. The villains of the next batman movie should be Killer Croc, Clayface, and/or the joker. They will most definately have more than one villain involved. I would also love to see the adoption of Robin.
the riddler - johnny depp
catwoman - elizabeth banks
penguin - larry the cable guy jk, phillip seymour hoffman
mad hatter - hugh jackman
poison ivy - kirstin dunst
mr.freeze - bruce willis
bane - the rock
harley quinn - natalie portman
Why does no one think Mr.Freeze. So much can go into that character. Needs to be played by Charles Dance from Last Action Hero. And the only women villian should be Harley Quinn.
There is definitely going to be a Catwoman…
Remember that quote…
Bruce: “Will this suit hold up against dogs?”
“It will against CATS”
Fore-shadowing people!!!
some of these recommendations are poor. I’d firstly recommend the 50 dollar man DIE!!!! I think it would be only right to bring Raz-al-gul(spelling?) back along with a few sidekicks. Penguin is a mob boss and in Nolans universe the mob bosses are always around. my Pick would be Kevin Spacey. I think Joker would be replaced with great difficulty (ledger was born for the role) however strange as it is i never thought once he could do it. Cat Woman would be a bad idea after it flopped would like to see Sean William Scott as the Riddler!
“batman villans”
I believe that jack black could easily outshine devito as the penguin. but i even moreso believe that the next movie should have Crispin Glover as The Riddler.
please let me know what you think of my ideas via e-mail
The only person I can imagine who could probably pull off a great Batman villain like the “PENGUIN”, is Jack Black. I know it seems like I’m reaching here but he could be great as the Penguin. I remember when Heath Ledger was announced as the next actor to play the Joker, many people were thinking to themselves, “poor casting, terrible decision, he could never pull it off.” Just keep an open mind !
I think Batman is going to find a love interest since he is weak. It will not be a woman though but a man. Thus Robin is born. Someone small and with the willingness to conquer evil together. Somone like Matt Damon could play the perfect role. Both of them fighting off a new Joker, 2 Face, possibly Riddler. Maybe an introduction to a cat woman but with no love interest because he has found his life partner Robin. Perfect just like the comic books. They live together not in the closet but in a cave. Either way I know for sure the next Batman will be awesome!
well how about Harley Quinn thrown in to copycat the joker
ok ok ok the truth about the next batman is that it will be superman vs batman and it is sequels to both movies because now batman is a villain in gotham and if you watch i am legend youll see a superman vs batman poster in times square so….. yeah
There is talk of Johnny Depp playing the Riddler in the next installment. Or Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin. I don’t know for sure so don’t quote me. It’s only a rumor.
I was thinking about the next movie, and automatically I did think of the Riddler… but I think it would very difficult to differentiate between The Joker and The Riddler. The next villain has to up the auntie again, no easy task. I think Black Mask, who creates a crime organisation to rival anything they have had in the past. Batman struggles to find out who the Black Mask is and derail the organisation of masked gangs.
Batman’s limits are once again being tested but this time there is another vigilante, ‘gun ho’, who does not care so much and is willing to do anything…Catwoman. She could be introduced as an ex assassin, maybe someone from the league of shadows trying to change the world her own way. And of course there’d be tension between the two as usual. Therefore the movie has a more recognisable character but not the main villain.
It was I was thinking today.
Joaquin Phoenix would do an amazing job as the Joker.
Just a thought: Obvious goal is to make money. Wouldn’t everyone go see the movie if they knew they were working the joker into it again somehow? Even those who say, “I wouldn’t go see it with a new joker”. You would see it at some point just because you would wonder how they pulled it off. Good or bad, it would make money to have someone play the joker again. Ledger was amazing, no doubt and I don’t see the performance being matched. It is so unfortunate what happened but in my opinion, you can’t change the story line especially when they left it open for the joker to return. If ledgers performance was sub-par, would you more openly allow a new actor into the role? It is truly unfortunate however, the show must go on. I left the movie blown away and very curious for the next movie and what will become of the joker. Whatever the plan is for the joker, I would be happy with closure. They left him just hanging there, obviously they had other plans. Keep going with the plan, if it is a terrible performance, at least we will get a storyline that makes sense. However, if they do use the joker, there will be so much attention placed on the role that it will have to be spectacular to make it into the film. A sub-par performance in the joker role will not be accepted.
The perfect actress for Catwoman is Cate Blanchet!!!
oops Blanchett……forgot the last t
I think Adam Forrest is a real dumb fuck. Chris Nolan is a genious and he could make any of those so called “campy” characters into a memorable character just like Heath Ledger’s joker. Your too stupid to look past Ledger and concider the posibility that Johnny Depp or Sam Rockwell could do just as good if not better than Heath Ledger. I like Heath Ledger’s performance as much as the next person but I also know that there’re are other good actors out there. Philip Seymour Hoffman would be great as the penguin. I hope Mr. Nolan keeps making Batman movies and I hope Adam Forrest has the same fate as Heath Ledger for being a fagit.
PS- Choke on that next drink… bitch
i agree that heath ledger owned “dark knight.” but i think david day lewis should take over the part as the joker. and if you have ever read the comics the joker never dies so you have to keep him through the entire movie. but i think they should add catwoman and the joker in the next movie. nolan is amazing and should keep doing what hes doing
i love the joker
i do not want a new joker
I think Mr. Freeze would be a great villain that wouldn’t be too campy. Mr. Freeze from the animated series had a dark past and would be great for Nolan to explore!
I completely disagree that you couldn’t play the riddler dark. To be honest he’s the darkest of of them all. If you were to pick a person who was the riddler it would be a Serial murderer- you know the bind and kill guy who always sent out those notes. That’s the riddler. Now what can be more sick and twisted than that. You just have to throw in a good actor, a good history of the character, and a twisted reason for killing people at random and you got a true to life villian that would be perfect for this movie.
It should be easy enough to top The Dark Knight. As movie it comes up short in every area. I know saying that is going to make every Batman Fanboy pissed. But really no one can actually explain why it is such a great movie they just keep saying it is the “Greatest comic book movie ever”. Really it is a very poor movie that wasn’t written well. I think everyone who is gay for it should think about what makes a good movie and see that this movie is completely lacking of those elements.
Also shame on your for letting yourself be marketed to so easily.
Hey James… shut up. I think you need to look at what makes a good movie. it is the best comic book series. Spider Man, Hulk, Superman, Iron man… Batman beats all of them. better action, better story lines, good character developement. The Dark Knight has all the elements a comic book movie should have. Your Probably a fagit who loves “artsy” and emotional movies. This movie was good, maybe not the best even though I loved it. But it is the best comic book movie.
Oh and I agree with Gentlemen Ghoast
riddler is the next villian played by jonny depp, im hopping they give scare crow a bigger role in the next movie as well… also the first comment i read was how a guy lost 50 bucks yodda yodda yodda, well i feel no pitty for you, these batman movies are supposed to be dark and they were clearly aiming for a an older audience… on a final note, i believe they need the joker to return for the series to survive, and altho heaths performance was amazing, and unique, it is much easier to impersonate than come up with your own character…
J i completely totally agree with you in every aspect, as good as Heath did perform the film itself was a bit overrated. The fact that most people were sucked in by the marketing of the film makes me laugh a little. I don’t want to admit it but heath never could have been this big alive as much as he is dead.
I just wanted to say a couple of things.
In first place…the thing with Heath is that he CREATED a role that maybe no other actor could create. But let me tell you that there´s a lot of actors that can watch Ledger´s acting over and over again to learn everything he did in the movie, and then play it the same. I mean maybe the role isn´t that impossible to imitate…i´ve seen a lot of imitators doing brilliant imitations. Don´t get me wrong…i loved the acting of Ledger…it was even better than everyone´s saying.
And…please…the guy that said Bale´s part or Fox´s part were easy to play…come on man…Bale wasn´t “screaming to somebody” the entire movie…you just have to look at Bruce Wayne, not Batman. That´s brilliant. Bale´s performance was as good as Heath´s, but since we have focused on him on the first movie now it´s time to give some room to the new chars in the movie…and let me tell you…after the third time you see TDK, you´ll start to focus more on Batman than the Joker.
And…Johnny Depp for the Riddler? That would be EXCELLENT…Johnny is great…I can´t wait for the third movie…it´s impossible that Nolan screw it up. Let´s trust him.
I have the perfect villain/hero for the next Batman movie. Azrael.
You can adapt this character to be Ras’ Al Goul’s son, who knows about Wayne, is jealous and has no sympathy for human life if the person has broken the law.
It fits perfectly with the dilema of escalation shown in Dark Knight.
Azrael simply kills any law breaker unlike his counterpart Batman. Azrael believes jail is for suckers and thinks Batman has accomplished nothing.
He also hates his father and think Gotham can be saved but ruled with an iron fist.
If someone breaks the law they face the sword of azrael.
Plus a great scene would be batman and azrael facing off with swords like bruce’s training for the league of shadows.
Plus the character can be crafted and not look too goofy or fake.
FIRST OF ALL U STUPID PEOPLE…Christian Bale already promised he would NOT act in another batman movie if they found a replacement actor for the joker…not a chance in the world…second of all the villains that are WAY too absurd to ever count in are Poison Ivy and Penguin…Christopher Nolan already said hes despised penguin his whole life…read some facts b4 u post stuff!
dark knight movie fa, bro, look at the movie industry…….. there will be another batman movie. They will recast joker because of his importance, no rather, because of the buzz it will cause. Heres headlines
“will the performance be better then the beloved actor?
Will so and so out play the great heaths joker?
What will happen, blah blah blah”
Everyone knows heaths performance was amazing so no one needs to comment any more on it, o and lastly, christian bales an actor enough said.
I’d say that they should bring Joker back, since he didn’t die in the second movie. I would say that, but who would take Heath Ledger’s place as Joker? Who could do the role justice?
Jack’s too old to go back to the Joker role. So…
The next Joker should be Depp or Joaquin Phoenix, and yes should probably just cameo in the next one as an introduction and teaser so the audience can get enthused. there has to be a new joker, just look at the movies without the joker….they pale in comparison. Banes a possible villain, but hes not as believable as the others. though i must say they need to bring in a totally new villian like killer croc or the mad hatter or harley that havnt been seen in the films before.
Also theres a villain called clay face, which reminds me alot of spidermans sandman
I think the Riddler is really the obvious choice to have as the main baddie in the 3rd Batman. A cameo by a new Joker as suggested by some - perhaps in Arkym, in cell badly lit, so we can barely make out who it is, taunting Batman as he walks by to perhaps check in on Two Face. We all know Two Face isn’t dead. Harvey Dent yes, but not Two Face. Johnny Depp could be a brilliant Riddler, playing him with a darker menace, taunting Batman through Gotham. Be good to see. Someone suggest The Rock as BAIN. No that would be great. He’s got the chops going as an actor, and certainly the ripped body to pull it off. He’s accent would require some work though as BAIN does originate from South America somewhere. They should eliminate villians that would require too much CGI like Clayface, Killer Croc etc. Penguin could work for sure, but The Riddler is the way to go in my opinion. Either way, Christopher Nolan will complete his trilogy, and then perhaps the way to go on with new Batman films would be as I suggested in an earlier post, one offs, with a new cast, and a new director who could truly canvas his own vision on a Batman story. I’d love to see Tarantino do a Batman film. Frank Miller would be good too.
All I have to say is how do you know rachael, or harvey dent are dead? It never showed any funeral. In the comic harvey gets reconstructive surgery. Then something traumatic happens and he burns his face. I think that Harvey dent will be a prominent villain in the next batman movie, and that rachael will make a reappearance.
I think I know who the villain in the next batman film will be lol. He did make a short appearance escaping from Arkham in Batman Begins and I don’t think they caught him. It is Zsasz. It would fit quite well with the scar theme that the director seems to like
He scars himself each time he kills someone. Look it up on wiki. I don’t think they’ll go down the killer croc route it’s a bit unrealistic.
if you want to see what
Johnny Depp would looks like as the joker there is a picture of him on ebaums world as such.
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/837917/
leonardo dicaprio as the joker? i personally think he could do it
Personally, I believe that there is no good reason not to replace Heath in the next movie. Heath made the role believable because he is a dedicated actor, like many others. The trick is finding someone with the right balance of Heath and something new. We’ll have to wait and see…
And also, my personal pick for the next line-up of rogues: Hush(c’mon, this would SOOO work in the Nolan universe), Deadshot, or Black Mask.
No, I don’t believe the Riddler is a good idea and no, I don’t believe Johnny Depp is a good idea for any role at all (maybe Robin. hahaha). Think about it, just because he plays whimsical roles doesn’t make him qualified for every luney character in any movie nowadays.
THE NEXT BATMAN MOVIES CHARACTERS WOULD BE:
Yo,
Christian Bale Sucks Like Bruce Wayne.
Bruce wayne have Black hair!!! not Blondddd!!!
Goerge Clooney is the most closer to be the Batman (again)
Riddler = Jhonny Depp (fuck Jim Carey with all respect)
Pinguin = Danny The Vito (Please again)
Mr Freeze = Patrick Stewart Or Terry O’Quinn Orrr Vinnie Jones!
(Schawarzznegger was the best Freeze Ever!)
Catwoman = Jessica Alba
Poison Ivy = Carmen Electra
Robin = Milo Ventimiglia
Batgirl = Evangeline Lilly Or Kristin Kreuk
Please keep in mind, when the first Batman was made, it was SUPPOSED to be based on the Dark Knight series, and at that time (the 90’s) everyone commented on how dark and different it was as compared to the TV series. Hell, I remember my Mom saying how violent it was. Now you watch it and oddly enough its the nicer, softer Batman. Different time, different writers, different directors and different audience (almost). We all know Jack Nicolson has great range and can be psycho if the role calls for it. If you also recall Willem Defoe was one of the contenders for the Joker. But, again, all the factors were different back then. So let’s not take anything away from the actors and their portrayal of these characters because for that time, everyone loved them!
hey just to say quickly and enough of bullshit, it was a brilliant performance by heath ledger but he can be replaced, and i know just the guy and remark my word, joseph gordon levitt, the guy is an excellent actor and just by chance he looks a lot like ledger so why not i would gave him a chance and start to passed out until nolan´s hears it.
Riddler? No
Joker? Nope
Two Face? Nah
Catwoman? Yeah right (not)
Penguin? Nice Try
Mr Freeze? Huh oh no
Scarecrow? Not!
Bane? Please
Harley Quinn? ummm nope
…
Mad Hatter? follow the rabbit…
I agree. Heath Ledger was brilliant. Hats off. I don’t want to speculate too much, but I do believe Nolan set up Catwoman for the next movie; even if based on this one conversation relating to Bruce’s new armor?
“How about dogs, Lucius?”
“Dogs? We talking Rottweiler or chiuaua?”
“Big dogs…”
“It should be fine against cats.”
Anyone else catch this?
It is just an inside joke. It is not a clue for the next villan. They left the ending on TDK showing that TWO FACE would indeed return. Why would anyone say he is dead? It clearly says that he is alive. Catwoman may be in th next batman as well…but ask yourself this.
Which villan would compare and go good with or against TWO FACE. Because he is sure to be in the next film. That is guarenteed. Aaron Eckhart signed a two movie deal and they clearly stated that he is alive.
So which villan would go good with or against TWO FACE?
RIDDLER, CATWOMAN, PENGUIN
I think there are still a couple of Batman villains that could be used which would stand up to the joker. Mr. Freeze would be a excellent candidate. The cartoon episode of Batman written by Paul Dini Called Heart Of Ice; was one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. There is enough depth to the character to make him a worthy villain for the Next Batman movie. despite the terrible Arnold performance as the character.
Ledger Rocked!!! And I will be completely honest, I never really cared to much about Heath Ledger as an actor, but he was perfect as the Joke. The Joker has always been my favorite villain, and that includes all super-hero movies! Anyone that says The Dark Knight was not a good movie or Jack was better as the Joker than Heath, well frankly they are just of poor taste!
Did anyone think that Aaron Eckhart stole the movie. I mean the Joker slashed his way around, but when TWO FACE and the JOKER were talking to eachother in the hospital…I couldn’t help but feel more on TWO FACE’s side. I thought TWO FACE stole that scene. But the Joker was badass. Did anyone else feel that the Joker made the movie far better? I mean that they could make a joker movie kinda.
Brittany could play a good Harley-Quinn!
Britt murphy
clayface can be a disfigured man that is a master of disguise. he can disguise himself as gordon or anyone just to figure out who the batman is.
the riddler should be smarter than batman.
Villains:
There is BANE with raw power and extraordinary physique.
They didn’t show Ra’s Al Gul die in Batman begins. He can still be brought back and together with Bane they can make a great movie
Sorry, but I could desagree with you in almost all points. I liked the Dark Knight, but it that movie wasnt about batman anymore. It is true that joker is a good villain, but his methods are becoming rutine over movie. Exposives all over, the space used for his madness takes the space reserved for Batmans double life, and his misterity. He no longer apears unexpected and no longer emerges from shadows, now the batman looks more like some super SWAT team member. It doesnt make the film worse, but its a litle disapointment for expectations. The created paralel betwen batman and the ninjas seemed like a good move, his costume made originaly for army also, on the end the technology to see everything was a great material for future explanations how is that hes on the right place when is something going on is shame that was destroyed.
The point is that even if joker has its greatnes, to the cinema I go for Batman. I readed several discussion on this tema, and everywhere they say Ridler is just a copy of joker, and that he is lame. But the movie adaptation brought a way to make a solution to this problem by geting him with double face. The double face is already created, and was on the dark knight like unnecesary and more like an obstacle for a fine ending because Nolan likes the villain andwanted him there, but there was no space for him. Ridler plus Double face are like oposites, and together they create an interesting team. Of course, a catwoman ust be in the next movie primmary.
Chris Nolan should just quite making movies while he’s on top! If I were him I’d just retire. Travel the world and just relax no worries of any kind and knowing you just made one of the best movies of our lifetime. AND!! LEAVE EVERYONE HANGING!!!
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA(joker laugh)
quit*
this is to “daryl” right under me. you must be demented. Joker was amazing and “the dark knight” all together was unfathomable. it was the best movie of the year and maybe even decade. you and your social worth should really reconsider what you said about the movie. Joker was great. the best villian of all time and God rest his soul, Heath Ledger was untouchable and no one will ever come close to his performance.
oops. this is to daryl up top “number 1″ youre a homo like deazy said. get a life man. batman was sick. you are the one who is “atrocious” go back to p***y land dude
Listen to me and listen to me good…
Johnny Depp is the ONLY, and i mean ONLY viable villain for the next Batman movie. I don’t care which part (preferably the Riddler), however, he should be a major player in the next movie.
I mean, think about it you guys?
Angelina Jolie has been rumored for Catwoman but aren’t we all a little too tired of Jolie portraying evil, gun killing women? plus she can’t match up to heath’s joker no way.
Then phyllip seymore hoffman is going to seem like a dud if he portrays the Penguin, considering all the fun we had watching Heath.
Yet even with all this, everyone still continues to love Johnny’s work and he has done terrific in every movie. I think since everyone loves him and he does have the same creative acting mindset as Heath, he is the perfect contestant for the next movie.
Look at what Chris Nolan has given us so far…he’s taken the other worldly Batman and villains, and made them real-worldly. So that’s what he’s going to do with any villain he sets against Batman.
When I first heard that Heath Ledger was going to be the Joker, I thought “A Knight’s Tale? WTF?” But Ledger was the business! And Chris Nolan is one who made it all happen.
We can see from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight that Nolan is on a mission to redeem Batman from the atrocious fate of Batman and Robin, so I don’t think he’s going to shoot his awesome achievement in the foot by delivering ridiculous, second rate villains.
First off, ur dumb for saying they should end it, because now the third one will be the most anticated movie until the third one comes out. Now for possible candidates of who the next villain would be, i dont know but im glad i dont. Thats what is going to make people want to see this again. I’m thinking it’s going to be the penguin. I was very mad he killed off two-face because i think it would have been a great set-up for the next one. And who knows he might bring him back but i think nolan just wants us to be on our toes. I’m going out on a limb saying penguin will be it. Now from seeing the other two batmans, everyone is practically British. I hope Nolan goes to the American side and picks Philip Seymour Hoffman as the next penguin. He’s an awesome actor and knows how to play hard roles. He would be perfect for a Nolan script because he has the tenacity to play hard roles. What do u guys think
It would be tight to see Bane. He could be some steroid MMA freak, and represent batmans uncontrolable anger.
Ok, so I think I saw a couple people get the story right with a pretty logical prediction of the next film. In “The Killing Joke” the Joker escapes from Arkham Asylum with the intent to kidnap Commissioner Gordon’s wife and torture her. He then tries to drive Gordon crazy by showing him pictures of her being tortured to prove that he can drive him insane. At the very ambiguous ending of the novel, no one really knows whether Batman kills the Joker, the Joker kills Batman, or they just kill each other. So, as far as the Joker making an appearance in the next film, it wouldn’t be accurate to the novel (being that Nolan’s Joker was based completely off it). Really, the Joker doesn’t have to make an appearance until the final film of this series.
Now, the most likely villain in the next film is Catwoman. With the death of Rachael and no real female presence much less love interest, its the most logical progression. Someone asked if anyone remembered the reference to Cats in The Dark Knight when Bruce and Lucius are discussing the new suit. I did notice, the hints this time were much more subtle for the next than the blunt ending to “Begins”, but they were there for sure……
Hmmm…Philip Seymour Hoffman…interesting idea.
The reference to cats may be something, or it may just be a contrast to the dogs that Bruce had just asked Lucius about.
But since Lucius had just mentioned chihuahua, it might be something…difficult to tell. Catwoman would be good, but not alone…we need a real villain.
Could it be the Joker? Who knows? They’d need an actor of requisite skill…otherwise, the Riddler seems a favourite, and Bane would be awesome, considering Nolan’s achievement so far…I’m just wondering what they’d do with the fact that he’s supposed to win against Batman the first time he fights him…
The next movie will have CATWOMAN in it. Notice when Batman askes if his new armor will be dog proof to Morgan Freemans character says it will be “cat” proof.
So no one like Azrael as a next character.
I liked the earlier posting where Azrael is related to Ra’s Al Gul.
I like how he could be Batman’s complete opposite, where he feels no remorse in killing villains.
I feel like he is a viable character too. Maybe played by Matt Damon or Ryan Gosling.
I think he would be a great character, almost Annikan Skywalker (Darth Vader) Like.
David Teenant or Depp will be perfect for the Riddler.
Darryl you are a fucking idiot. You and your whole idiot family. I will wire you your $50 so you can light it and stick it up your dumb ass! Stick to gay ass movies like NARNIA you effing wimp! THE DARK KNIGHT is now #2 and closing in on the vastly overrated TITANIC. So put that in your pipe and smoke it fucko! Because 50 million people cannot be wrong! THE DARK KNIGHT is by far the Best Film of the year so get used to it!
Hey tony…. lol is all i have to say to you, if you converted the current dollar amount to the dollar amount back when titanic was number 1, TDK would have to sell a shit load more then it currently has. I’m not saying that it isn’t a good movie just saying it would never pass titanic it you considered dollar amount. And it prob will be number 1.
what do you think of johnny depp as the riddler have you ever seen him on willy wonka i bet he can play a dark and satisfying one, and how bout bringin back the scarecrow he’s not dead and how bout robin williams as the penguin he proved to be dark on that picture movie just food for thought i know nolan should make more movies they just rock!!!
apod, you don’t seem to know what you’re talking about.
there is no “man behind the mask” in the new Nolan batman films - bruce wayne is the mask, he’s the “act”, the persona he gives to the rest of Gotham is one of an arrogant prick, THAT’S the mask the Batman is wearing, not the other way around.
i don’t know how you could’ve missed this in the end of batman begins with rachel’s line “i’m talking about THIS mask…”
dude the joker was asome but i think they should bring in the riddler or Mr.freeze. heard a rumor that they have johnny depp as the riddler but idk
Hey I like your comments and I agree. Heath ledger’s performance was legendary and the joker is so far my favourite character ever. But the good thing is there will always be something new and there will always be something to turn up and amaze us. Before you saw Heath Ledger you never thought there’d be someone so good to make the Joker look and act so freakin’ awesome! So I hope to see a third movie that would amaze me with something original and new like Heath did. Most of the bad guys from batman are funny and wierd and would just not fit in the dark new way of presenting the story. But I’m sure there will be something that we cannot think of now that will make the third movie unique like The Dark Knight is.
I shudder at the thought of other Batman films with lesser villains. And one with a Robin perhaps? Yikes. Joker is just too much to top. The most logical sequence would be a Justice League movie. But for some reason, I’m not too keen on that.
Hmm … I must admit, the thought of Harley Quinn in the next movie or two would be quite interesting. Catwoman’s just too predictable. Riddler would sorta make sense cuz his criminal style is totally different and he could really test Batman’s intelligence. Lots of possibilities now that I think about it.
Honestly, I don’t think Two Face should’ve emerged in the film. Joker was enough to carry that film. Having Harvey Dent was fine and showing the events leading to his transformation was fine also. But Nolan should’ve waited before revealing what Harvey Dent had become. That would’ve made more sense going into the 3rd movie because the anticipation and speculation would be higher. Now, if we find out that Two Face is in the next film, we know exactly what he looks like and how he acts already. Personally, I’d love to see a new character like Harley Quinn in the next film.
Actually I love the Dark Knight I heard that Johnny Depp will be the Riddler in the next batman movie and I can’t wait. I don’t want Nolan to stop making good Batman movies. Oh and Hardy, two-face is not dead, he was just unconscious from the fall him and batman took. I think the next villians in the Batman movie coming up will be two-face, and the Riddler.
I don’t suggest watching the newer “The Batman” cartoon, but maybe just getting a glimpse of the Riddler episodes. I thought the whole slinky, dark, more serious take on Riddler was pretty genius. If the next movie could somehow capture him as more of a misunderstood intellectual of some sort, it could be, maybe not as good as Joker, but still a great movie.
the simple facts are that though ledgers performance ,earth shattering as it may be. is one of an open ended charcter.. the joker in and of its self is more of an idea, and has many interpratations. ledger pulled from several of the original concepts in the calssic and psychotic joker that appeard early on in the comics history. but we see those elements shine through in more recent batman stories as well, lets face it just before the joker blew up robin right in front of batmans eyes he attcked him with a crow bar in the back seat of a limo…. the idea of a charachter who just doesnt really care about human life and seems to long for the fun of torturing batman and the people of gotham, his motives have never been tangable and often we never know truely what they are, this is why he has always been so frightening and ledger only amplified that and truely personafied the idea… but that doesnt mean that no one else could play the joker, it just means that nolans work just got a little more difficult….. but that should bring the joker back, mostly becuase batman isnt batman without the joker, yin and yang coulsnt describe the clash of titans we all witnessed sitting in movie theatres around the world. and by comparison a mand dressed like a bat seems sane when the jokers on the loose…. hopefully two face will be back as well, and as for other characters id like to see, possibly killer croc, i know hes a freak show, but id really like to see nolans realstic take on the croc, especially after the changes made to two face ( i think ill always remember the scene of him drinking whiskey). I also think it would be a negative if nolan chose to do another character who for lack of a better word is un “extroardinary”. I look at it this way, raz and scare crow wher bruces test of faith, faith in people and himself. the Joker was his test of mental and emotional strength and wether he could do what ti took to truly insure gothams safety. therefore the test of body should be next, in the animated shorts created as a sister to the theatrical movie shows the croc and several other villians who might show up…. truth be told i think nolan himself gave the best evidenct ot bringing back characters with the scarecrows cameo in the dark knight
wHy So SeRiOuS!!??
the dark night ia my favorite movie and i totally agree with you that the only reason ive seen it 9+ times is because of heath ledgers peformance it was amazing i dont think if there is a going to be a sequal that anyone can play it well except for johnney depp because in pirates he has to do all those twitches and i think he would be perfect RIP HEATH
Sorry,I notice that your post was two months ago Darryl, but if you didn’t think this was a good movie and you actually tried to get your money back you’re not only an idiot but you probably have the worst taste ever. Anyone that knows anything about movies could recognize that this was a brilliant film and if not at least appreciate it in some degree for there was little this filmed did not succeed in. The fact that you tried to get your money back is just stupid, when has that ever worked for you? You see the movie, therefore your money is spent.
You are worthless to society anyways for not being to appreciate the acting and visual effects in this movie and for being such a thick-headed ignorant person when trying to justify the loss of so called “social worth”.
By the way, your family sucks too.
I hope you all know that you guys are talking like if The Joker diedin THE DARK KNIGHT may I remind all of you HE IS STILL ALIVE. There was a bit of a foreshadow in TDK. Saw how the scarecrow appeares in the very beggining still a criminal, I think the joker will be the same, it shows that the villains, if they dont DIE they reappear. And to tell you the truth in the trilogy I wouldnt mind seeing The Scarecrow & the Joker together. I mean it would sound like a pretty good storyline to know where the joker got his “poisonous Laughing gas, and towards the climax when they seem they are in control I would put a little originality from the comics and have the scarecrow turn on the joker, finding out that his “FEAR GAS” has no effect on the joker, and the joker KILLS HIM rather that [like the comic] hits him with a chair. I would have that in the very beggining , maybe 45 min into the film , KILL the joker, and bring the riddler in for a little DARK , I MEAN REALLY DARK comedy. I mean HE KILLS, just for the F**k of it. AS DARK AS The Joker. But a lot more diversity between the two characters as of what they want, [riddler is a character that like to "plan" things, makes DEATH a game.] as the joker. Hes the type of character that Heath Ledger Hit right in the fucking Head of the nail. He is a person that doesnt care, “he just wants to see the world burn” . Well thats it for my point of view of how I would write/direct the trilogy but eh. Chances of Nolan contacting for advice is less than McCain and Palin winning in Nov 4.
RIP HEATH LEDGER but……..
THE JOKER WILL LIVE ON
if they do bring in another joker then he is going to have to kick some major ass in order to please the people…major ass kicking…if not then he will be criticised for the rest of his life.
Yes, I believe it will be hard to top this Batman movie, but Angelina Jolie has agreed to play the part of Catwoman in the upcoming Batman movie and I would pay to see that!
Riddler should be the next villian and played by Johnny Depp
I want to say that when ever i search batman joker true story it never comes what comes that joker cartoon so i have a request that please full fill my wish.
Thank you. i send it you on 14 of October 2008.
[...] Who are they going to use as a villain in the next Batman? Ledger was too good as Joker, who can fill his shoes? The Joker Killed the next Batman Movie [...]
What about bain a super strong guy isn’t hard to beleive
and if i recall scarecrow is still alive
and someone like jonny depp could pull of the riddler
bain owns and if scarecrow has a fear drug bain could just be hopped up on super steroids
I think that if they are to recast the Joker than Charlie Hunnam, from the Sons of Anarchy could fit the role. He even sort of looks like heath but the best part is that he can act. I first saw him in green street hooligans a brilliant movie, but SOA is what sold me on his acting chops he play Jax Teller the vp in a biker gang on the show and I think he’d be perfect as the Joker.
Mark Hamill, who did Luke Skywalker, does a pretty good joker. He did the Joker in the animated series, and in a few of the movies. Ledger actually studied Hamill’s voice-overs to help create his take on the Joker. I’m not saying that Hamill can capture the viewers as the Joker, but it would be possible to pull a Darth Vader with a voice-over and a guy with great body language and make up.
please answer if you think bain would be good? if not please tell me why
@colin
I think Bane would have to be pretty different from the comics. It would be hard for me to buy the Mexican wrestler outfit, and even harder to buy the whole venom gimmick. It worked well in the comics, but besides the whole tubes-in-the-neck getup, would they do CG when he gets “juiced”? That just wouldn’t fit with Nolan’s style.
I think I could like Bane if his venom were replaced with a more realistic drug. I’d be interested in seeing Javier Bardem as Bane (did you see that guy in No Country for Old Men?). What about you, who would you like to see as Bane?
There are still some hurdles, though. Bane’s attack on Batman would probably have to change drastically, since the gimmick in his masterplan is to break Batman’s arch-enemies out of Arkham. If you’d like to see Batman beat Scarecrow and Joker all over again, only this time much more quickly…alright, but I’m not on the same page. Plus I think an Arkham breakout would feel like a rehash, since Scarecrow orchestrates a similar scheme in Batman Begins.
One last thing: Bane’s third gimmick is that he’s obsessed with Batman. This would feel like a rehash of the Joker’s obsession. Do you disagree? I know Bane hates Batman whereas the Joker “loves” him, but how do you see that playing out in interesting ways?
All that said, you got me thinking about a movie with three main characters: Batman, Bane (played by Javier Bardem), and the Joker (played by James Franco). We know what Batman and Bane want, but the Joker is a wild card–what are his intentions? After some twists we find out the Joker’s on Batman’s side. No wrestler with a monkey on his back is going to waltz into Gotham and kill the Joker’s favorite person!
your rihgt adam but i was thinking that instead of juicing up he could just be constantly super strong and he doesn’t need to be a mexican wrestler, your right thought Javier Bardem would be great
I know it doesnt follow the comics but i think it could start with riddler doing a huge crime to state that brains triumph over everything. Later bain would comit a bigger crime stating that brawn is better than brains. they would both be foiled by batman so they eventualy team up
@ Colin
That could be interesting to see Bane and Riddler team up. I imagine that if those two join forces, they would both be looking to betray the other as soon the other becomes unnecessary. I’d like to see that power struggle play out.
So that would be cool, but I wonder what the real, lasting hook to the movie would be? Batman Begins is about choosing justice over vengeance (and how the two can often become tangled), and The Dark Knight is about (1) evil that cannot be understood and (2) is it okay to deceive people ‘for their own good’? So as I think about these possible villains, I wonder what kind of themes would be raised by their stories? I’d like another layer added to the ‘brains vs. brawn’ power struggle.
I think they foreshadowed harley being in the next movie, because the joker was caught, he probablly goes to arkhum and meets harlet. Unfortunately since heath ledger died that probablly wont happen, unless they find a new joker, but heath ledger did an incredible job. I hope they do make more batman movies especially with catwoman. I think johnny depp would be a great riddler, he’s an actor that can transform himself into so many characters. The dark knight was great and its gonna be hard to top that movie. I dont think that they can find anyone better to play the penguin than danny devito, and what about this rumor that theres a batman and superman movie where they are together UGH!!! Its a privelege for superman to be with batman but its an embarassment for batman to be with superman
ps. who would you think would make a good Harley? I think maybe cameron diaz cuase she has a super cool smile, somewhat like the late heath ledgers.
ed norton, or kevin spacy, could do mr freeze… Mr freeze may be a good character for nolan’s darker motif.
i’d be thrilled to see mr. Freeze he’s dark enough and i think his powers could be pulled of if they had that thing in batman begins that makes things evaporate one that froze things could work too.
i would love to see the Penguin just totally rethought.
make him a tall handsome man (maybe bald) with chisled facial structure and pale ,then give him thalidomide( the flipper hands)
Im not sure what there going to do about the joker in the next film, i doubt there will be another joker. but as for candidates, andy dick has the voice down already haha, just a lack of physical features. Perhaps the joker will carve his face up even more for the hell of it? that would be an easy scapegoat. and im no necrophiliac, but heath DOES deserve all these blowjobs in every comment, he was damn good.
I saw the Dark Knight @ London’s IMAX theatre and remember feeling privileged to see a performance as acclaimed as ledgers’ @ IMAX.
Along with everyone else who saw the movie (who has any kind of compassion)… we hung with our finger nails off his every line delivered from beyond the grave and clear to me it was that this was a ‘one-off’… never to be seen again, or replaced.
DC should therefore take the Batman features in a new creative direction but remain faithful to the storyline since ‘Begins’… I’d like to suggest that the 3rd and preceding movies in this new series be Animated. Not money breathing CGI but something allot more retro, similar in styling to the artwork in Graphic Novels ‘Year One’ or ‘The Dark Knight Returns’. This is simply the most exciting way to continue a story which obviously can’t continue without the Joker.

This is my last log i shall make every step that i take is in the respect and felling of miss for Heath Ledger Even so i love the new batman movies i do and i dont wont a new movie to be made Heath was the best of the best out there no one could ever perform as excellent as him he is a god to me id say he gave it 101% for his acting in this movie i pay great respect to his family and freinds out there this is me saying goodbye may HeATH REST IN PEACE FOR ALL OF TIME reast in peace man i dedicate my life to you>
guys, come on. no one can replace Heath Ledger’s joker. it would be the worst thing somebody could ever do. some of you say that Johnny Depp should play the next joker because he’s that kind of actor, dark and mysterious. thats why he would be great for the Riddler! and if you think the other villians are “campy” then i would think again. if Nolan could change the comical joker into a dark villian then he can do that w/ the other villians! And i would like to see Harley Quinn in the next movie. it would make sense because the captured the joker and if you know Harley then you know that she is quite protective of her Puddn’. maybe not in the 3rd movie but maybe after that she could hop into the picture with maybe Poison Ivy. it would be super cool. i think they should make at least 2 more batman movies. thats all i ask
R.I.P Heath Ledger
we all love you…..exspecially me <3
dope movie a+++, another batman movie is necessary but wont match, darryl go bury yourself u filthy dog, aussie aussie aussie
I have heard that Nolan does not want to make another movie. It has also been rumored that Johnny Depp could be the riddler and Philip Seymour hoffman the penguin. If this is true I would say another movie could be made and made well with such esteemed and charismatic actors. You put these types of actors in movies to make them great, and if all these people were to work together, I would say that Nolan could finish the movies and go out with a bang. I do agree though that ledger was the best joker and ‘The Dark Knight’ was the best batman by far. So if Nolan did end of this note, I would be satisfied.
If Nolan decided to bring back the Joker, I think Giovanni Ribisi would be a great choice.
I personally favor Burton as a Batman (as well as Jack to Ledger) director to Nolan, but he’s still got the series covered, in my opinion. Ever notice how no villian from the Nolan series (minus Two-Face) was killed off? Scarecrow is still awaiting an actual confrontation with Batman in his final form. ALSO the Riddler has the potential to NOT be a watered down Joker, if done right (actually, I’m only thinking of Batman: The Animated Series). There’s also a bunch more obscure Batman villians that fit the bill, but much of the excitement of watching the Batman movies comes from seeing familiar faces in the director’s style. Burton showed how the Penguin can’t be campy, but for that, he had to stretch the story and the character’s morals; Christopher Nolan should have a pretty hard time doing this, and an even harder time finding a mand who can out-play Danny DeVito (which is basically like finding someone to out-play Jack Nicholson as the Joker; IT CAN’t BE DONE)!
no other actor fits the joker role than johnny depp so those who are saying nonsense about him get lost……
I believe their is someone who can outshine Devito as the penguin, even though it’s not going to take much talent, considering Batman Return’s totally sucked. I believe that Phillop Seymour Hoffman, could be the next “Heath Ledger”, so to speak. And because they always have two villains, it’s either going to be Aron Ekhart as Two Face, or i think Johnny Depp as the riddler would go over very well, he would be able to twist that role into something very disturbing, much like Heath’s twist on Nickolson’s joker.
Yesterda after watching the movie for a second time, I thought to myself: “How the hell are they gonna top this! They can only go down from there…” But Im very curious about it, and would be the first to go see a new batman movie.
PS Whats up with wanting Giovanni Ribisi as the Joker. That actor doesnt have any appeal at all. He looks retarded, no offence.
every toast i make is to heath (rip)
i dont think they should have a new joker but harly quin would be cool she’d almost be like a tribute to what heath started
I believe that an another attempt at the riddler being the villain would be a great idea. Batman Forever failed because of a cheesy script and playing the Riddler too much like the original way back in the day. We have seen how Nolan recreated Two Face and the Joker into great villains. Stick with the formula of keeping it as realistic as possible and you can’t go wrong. As far as trying to match The Dark Knight, forget it. Its a shame Heath passed when he did because he really found his niche as a psycho villain
We all know the last two batman movies were excellent. Heath ledger was amazing as the joker. The next movie will be hard to top. There are not many villans to choose from that have not already been done by the other batman movies. The mad hatter is the next best bet, he would be creepy enought to fit into the style of the new batman movies. If they were going to remake a batman villan i would choose Poison Ivy. This could be played by Marcia Cross from desperate housewives, However, Since the new Batman movies are darker and seems the bad guys have an evil twist I have an idea…Do Poison Ivy, but make it a boy….a Red head….Who does cross dress when he is poison ivy. This could be fun dark twist to the character……FYI I am a red head and inexperience actor give me a shot. But either way its a amazing idea.
cheers
jace
What you guys don’t get is that Heath Ledger would not have opposed to someone else playing the roll even if he has passed on he got his chance at something that he wanted to do for a long time. and now even though he is gone someone else will have to pick up where he left off. The show must go on right. You can’t make Batman movies with out one of Batman’s most brilliant nemis’. Now what i predict will happen is a few shmucks will get their chance at the roll in maybe 1 or two different movies untill we all find a joker that we are satisfied with… but those one or two movies will probably be put through hell by the critics because… well we’re all critics and we all think we are right. You can’t stop making Batman movies where he left off and you can’t leave out the Joker entirely. I say they leave out the joker for 2 movies untill they find the perfect person who can match what Heath brought to the screen. And not one of those f**kin popular among the crowd actors. We need fresh meat brought to the roll… someone who really understands the depth that Heath brought to the charcter.
Oh yeah btw i was amazed at Heath’s proformance just as much as the rest of you and may he rest in peace.
Lets all keep in mind that while there are many villians in the batman universe. Christoper Nolan’s films come from a different line of Batman comics. It’s the darker more humanistic character, not the so much superhero character that the earlier batman movies portrayed. Jack Nicholson was an excellent Joker for the type of joker he played. Heath Ledger was a phenomenal Joker for the type of joker Nolan wanted portrayed. Hands down my favorite joker is the one portrayed by Heath Ledger, but you can’t compare the two jokers because they are different. Like i was saying before, while there are many villians in the batman universe, Nolan’s films are superheroes and villians in humanistic terms. The question is how can he humanize characters that are simply supernatural? The riddler might work and unfortunately two-face is dead. Catwoman might work as well. But turning poison ivy and the penguin into humanized characters might be too difficult. We may see only one more batman film at best
I am so sorry that heath died. Joker was always my favourite batman character because he made being evil look fun. He always cracked me up when i watched batman. Jack Nicholson is one of my favourite actors cause he got to be joker. And just a question will there be a third batman cause i was thinking that i should try out for it. Im only twelve so i was hoping there would be robin try outs.
Personally i cant see anyone being able to top Heath Ledger’s performnce, but that being said if there is another joker i’d like to see daniel day-lewis. If you’ve seen him as Bill the Butcher in gangs of new york then you can just picture him with a knife about to cut a smile onto someones face as the joker..also agree with the idea of Josh hartnett as the riddler.. hartnett is a great actor and would add a more physical element to the riddlers brains…if nolan uses the riddler i dont wanna see i geeky little skinny guy that batman could snap in half..Ledger added the same type of element to the joker and i think hartnett could too
Well i would have to say that the dark knight is 1 of the best films i have ever seen, And i have pretty much seen them all. Its an actioned packed thrill ride of right vs wrong with some amazing acting on both sides. And if they do make a new batman movie, the joker in my opinion could’nt and should’nt be left out he’s not had all his fill yet, he has been the leading arch nemesis of batman since the dawn of time nd it would be a shame to keep it into 1 movie especialy as he aint dead yet. As regards who’s to play the next joker many big time batman fans have wondered over who could possibly fill heath ledger clown shoes well how many ” big time” fans thought that about jack nickleson. Well there is only 1 person in my mind, johnny depp who is not only 1 of the best actors of our time but is a certified fruitcake as seen in the pirates trilogy. Add a bit of evil too him and that would be a crazy combo. But thats just whatever happens please dont bring back mr freeze… OUCH
Okay, I’ve seen this movie 9 times. It was a blast and I hope they go on. I’ve always wondered if they would really make another Batman movie. If they were to do so, I would think they would have to continue with The Joker(r.i.p). No one could truly match his madness. It could be nice to have Harley Quinn come in, but I’m sure that wouldn’t happen.
When Morgan Freeman and Christian Bale “Bruce” were talking about his new armor/outfit in the movie, Bruce asked, “How would it hold up against dogs?” Morgan Freeman said. “It should hold up against cats”
That made me think of Catwoman.
I just hope something gets figured out… and Rest in Peace Heath Ledger. He was an amazing that died to young. On his birthday I’m doing something special. Weird much?
Okay for one i dont think anyone would be fit to pull off The Joker anymore because Heath was very intense and terrifying, so i think they should just end The Joker being in anymore Batman movies all together. Also when Morgan Freeman said that comment about cats its also made me think about Catwoman and it got me excited because Catwoman is awesome! I think Angelina Jolie would be perfect for that role!!! Jolie is fuckin hot and she is a great actress! She’d pull it off… and Johnny Depp WOULD NOT be good as The Joker…are you kidding me…he wouldnt be great in any of it… his voice is nothing like how The Jokers voice should sound and the laugh that The Joker does is so awesome i can only imagine Depps laugh to be dumb and not terrifying and Depp isnt even that scary! ok sure he played a murderous barber but he also SANG in it too and it wasnt even scary!….if Depp is casted as The Joker (which he WONT be) im sure a lot of Dark Knight fans will be pissed!
NO! NO! NO! I like d all the batman movies and I want to watch more! The Dark Knight almost sounds like the ending to the Batman saga, but what about Mr. Freeze? What about Poison Ivy, the Riddler and the Robin? These two movies only touch the begining of Batman. So many things were not shown yet! I think at least two more movies should be created.
Dont have time to read this whole thing, so dont know if anyone mentioned this allready.
Only 1 person could do the joker as good as Ledger and probably better.
Daniel day Lewis
but thats just my dream, couldnt imagine how good it would be.
ps: omg START making r rating for these genius movies. I cant even think how good they would be without these crappy pg13 limits.
My Concept for the NEW Riddler,is that He is a Force That Batman would do GOOD…NOT to Mess With! DC Comics’s Comicbook Riddler is More of a Threat, than Jim Carrey’s Candyass Roll! If I were to Portray MY Script’s Riddler…Christian Bale would have His Hands Full! Batman is a PIG! He’s SCUM! Riddle Me THIS, Toadstool Face…WHAT is Huge on Top,and Smaller at the Bottom, but is Hardly seen by ANYONE? All The Other Villains You Face,Barf Man is FRAGILE! Let a REAL Threat Take You On,Crapped Crusader! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!
Honestly there is still fight in the Batman Movies.
At the end of the Dark Knight, they show people are hunting down Batman now.
I do agree that bringing in the Riddler right now would be wrong to much like Joker. But how about the next movie how the public actually hunts down Batman. All of Gotham City against him.
As the city is against him, old mob boss black mask could seize the opportunity to wreak havoc on the city while gotham citizens scare off there only hope.
or you could bring back the penguin. have him run for mayor again and his platform being mainly on killing batman.
then after that movie you could bring in the riddler.
Let’s not forget about the short series, “The Cult,” about the subterranean psychotic-religious horde that takes over Gotham, one citizen at a time. Very dark and very real. Perhaps this is what Nolan has in mind?
And as a future Penguin? I’ll take Phillip Seymour Hoffman. That would be bad-ass.
I think that in the next batman movie there should be a similar scene like the scarcrow appearance in the dark knight, but it should be in the sewer with killer croc. Also, a good actor to play the riddler would be Daniel Day Lewis.
Heath Ledger’s Joker performance is over-hyped. It was definitely his best and he deserves praise, but it wasn’t as good as people make it out to be. Jack Nicholson is still the best on-screen Joker in my opinion - though the plot and story of the new Batman films are much better than the original Tim Burton one.
Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin or Johnny Depp as the Riddler would be a good follow-up to Heath Ledger’s Joker.
sad, but true
I would hate to see Depp as the riddler. For some reason I think he would be too much like Jim Carrey…..
I know this may sound unorthodox to you die-hard batman fanatics, but how about Nolan just make up a new villian? There are plenty of actors (Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Tom Hanks, Daniel Day Lewis, etc) that could bring a dark and twisted presence to Batman 3. No make-up, just a sick and twisted enemy out to fuck Gotham up!! All of the above actors are certainly capable of giving Heath-like performances…….
heath ledger is so amaaaaaaazing! especially in brokeback mountain haha. also, the joker. whoever thinks otherwise can just shove their rotten faces in a puddle of mud. and die.
Christopher Nolan doesn’t use “Hollywood” actors… so you can pretty much cross off all of the dumb ass actors you guys have named so far. except maybe DD Lewis
Okay, so the Joker is indeed a mighty enemy. But it was established that he had no motivation other than the simplicity of chaos. Scary and insane, but i feel Two Face will be as formidable as the Joker. Heath Ledger’s Joker was pretty good, but missed the vital element of being the killer of Batman’s parents, ultimately making him Batman. That little piece would have made The Dark Knight even darker. But, instead, he was simply chaotic. Two Face had everything and had it ripped away from him from, in his mind, Batman. There is only one thing scarier in my mind then an unpredictable foe, and that is on with overflowing amounts of animocity and hatred. To him, Batman took his image, his love, his life. I feel that makes for a much more troubling encounter then a simple, not to undermine the Joker, anarchist.
While granting that Ledger’s Joker was indeed formidable, he lacked a few key elements. First and foremost, he was not a mobster at one point nor was he responsible for the death of Batman’s parents. It is this knowledge once the line, “Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light”, that sets Batman on a personal manhunt for justice. The true face of masked vigilantism comes out. It is this which is the entire point for the hunt and battle between the two. As far as most formidable villain, not so true. Ledger’s Joker was a, not to undermine him, a simple anarchist with grandiose ideas. Lacking a motive makes him a terrifying enemy, but Harvey Dent fell from the highest point to become the scared face of evil. A public savior tossed to the floor, has everything taken from him, and, worst yet, has miss guided hatred and resentment. The man has an inside look at law enforcement and has worked with the inner workings of Gotham City. An educated man hell-bent on the destruction of Batman is as equally entertaining and equally horrifying as Ledger’s Joker.
I think you are overlooking something. Everyone thinks that you need 2 villains in the next movie. You don’t.
Think about it. The Joker could of carried that movie by himself easily. All you need is some good villain. Examples: Black Mask, Catwoman, Hush, etc…
Sure, no villain can top the joker, but in the next movie, Batman has to deal with (enter villain name here) AND the police. You don’t need 2 villains.
I think the next Batman movie will be better then the Dark Knight. The villians should be Penguin,Riddler and Catwoman.I think that Jonny Depp should play Riddler,Phillip Saymour Hoffman as Penguin and Angelina Jolie as Catwoman
Heath Ledger better than Jack Nicholson, you must be daft. Arnie and Uma Thurman were better than Heath Ledger, you got chomped on by the sympathy bug mate.
I don’t really know what to think about a third movie. The Dark Knight was a great movie, directed perfectly. Heath Ledger’s performance throughout was just amazing. I also enjoyed Batman Begins, but I enjoyed The Dark Knight more, due the The Joker.
As for the next villain, I’m not sure there will be. I think that Nolan notices that if he makes another Batman movie, it won’t live up to the standards of the previous two movies that he has made. Since the rest of the villians he could pick can’t touch The Joker.
Mr.Freeze wouldn’t be very good at all, and I can’t think of one actor that could play that villian.
The Riddler is too camp, and I couldn’t watch him for a full lentgh movie.
The Pengiun could possible would, with a actor such as Philip Seymour Hoffman for example. I’m not sure though, let’s wait and find out.
I see the next movie like this. We know by TDK batman is now on the run. I can see Batman in hiding. The next villian must bring batman out of hiding. They can’t put Jonny Depp or any other “big” name star in the villian role. If they do the series will go back to what it was before. I do like Daniel Day Lewis , but I’m not sure what charactor he could play. Two face coming back doesn’t seem possible. Mostly because his change from Dent to Two Face was very quick. It almost seemed at the end that he regreted changing. It would be hard to believe from the previous storyline that Two/Face could be a ruthless killer. The Penguin is possible, but something must entice Batman back. Gotham has turned their back on batman. He is considered just as bad as the joker. It will be difficult to develope a storyline that changes the city’s perspective of batman. I believe though the this would have to be the theme of the next movie. The question is, Would the movie be damaged if Batman became accepted as a hero by Gotham?
I don’t know, I’d love to see Hugh Laurie or Hugo Weaving playing the riddler. The Joker represents Chaos, but the Riddler represents control. Psychotic OCD could make for a great Batman movie in this new universe.
i wish that joker guy didnt die it is so depressing he played the joker very very well
@ Sam R.
Your Riddler ideas are some of the most interesting I’ve heard. You’re right, either Hugh Laurie or Hugo Weaving would be great as the Riddler.
How do you imagine the riddles? Would they be playful or dark? What would be the consequences of getting them wrong?
i totally agree with you the dark knight is the best yet and nolan shouldnt ruin it for the rest of us. the dark knight allowed is to be inside a psycho path who was loving in a creepy way. there is no body to replace heath ledger in this role. this opened a whole new door and era for all of society when it pertains to the comic book series. heath ledger made the joker come alive and shine through batman. bottom line we didnt go to see batman we went and paid to see the joker a joker that should not be replace point plain simple…..duh
Ok, so I know its an off the wall kinda choice. But my thoughts are that if Harley Quinn is put into the movies, they should use Pink. Don’t shoot me down… Hear me out first. She looks good as a blonde. She is athletic enough to pull off the moves. She has that sort of playful psychotic thing about her and can make her voice fairly high. If they were going for the more dark image, rather than the comic-y one, I think she would look pretty good. Found an image someone did of her, and I think it works:
http://angel-blaze.deviantart.com/art/Harley-Quinn-Pink-82627735
BOOO your criticism and obvious lack of batman knowledge. The Penguin was played by Devito magnificently, to the point where you even felt sorry for the evil character. Batman Returns was great as well, thats my point. It can not be put in the same group as Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. I believe that Philip Seymour Hoffman would make a great Penguin.
heath ledger portrayed joker in the best possible way. his acting was so convincing, that it outshines batman’s preseance on the screen. and look what he did to the city with gasoline and couple of bullets.
but i guess, it was his creativity which made us watch it, over and over again.
i bet riddler may be campy, but johnny depp should fit the role quite well.
I like the idea of Batman VS. Two-Girls-Duo (Cat Woman & Poison Ivy)!!!!!!!!!!!
joseph gordon levitt as the joker since hes the only one that kinda looks like heath and gerad buttler as black mask…
what about dr.freeze? i mean hes a pretty good villan… an two face, he didnt die at the end of the movie they just thought it would be better to keep the white night instead of what he became.
The way I think the next movie COULD go: Definately need Harley Quinn to fill the Joker void. My thoughts are that Harley Quinn doesn’t exactly need to meet the Joker at all even though that’s the way it is in the comics. Harley Quinn could be a girl that has followed the story of the Joker in the news and has an almost psychotic crush on him. This leads her to team up with another villain to avenge the Joker’s loss to Batman. They’ll work together to kill the batman. I believe Nolan could make almost any villain work. I personally like the idea of the Penguin as a British arms dealer. The only requirement for that role is a short and pudgy actor. Mr. Freeze (despite some ridicule) could work. You just have to look past the comic book character. Mr. Freeze could be a chemist of some sort that makes a chemical, when injected, paralyzes the victim and turns them blue like they are frozen. While you have Harley Quinn going after the Batman, you NEED the Riddler going after the true identity of Batman; providing a personal and physical threat. In the comic books, The Riddler now uses his superior problem solving skills as a private detective. Seeing as Batman is considered a villain by the city of Gotham, someone hires the Riddler to find the Batman and bring him to justice. Later Batman and the Riddler team up to stop Harley Quinn and (I hope) the Penguin.
My Choice for Actors:
Harley Quinn- Kristen Bell
Penguin- Bob Hoskins
Riddler- Adrien Brody
Mr. Freeze (if they use him)- Hugh Laurie
After watching Michael Shannon play John Givings in Revolutionary Road, I’m convinced we found the best man to portray the Joker in upcoming Batmans
I agree that Adrian Brody or someone like Hugh Laurie should play the riddler, He is one of my favorite villians in the series but Jim Carey made me hate the riddler for the movie.
Heath did a Great Job as Joker, but that doesnt mean he should not be the last one to portray him. I mean Batman needs the Joker And to me quite honest I was skeptic at first of Ledger’s ability to play the Joker until he blew me away, so why not give someone else a chance to blow us away and still the light.
Definitely would like to the Harley Quinn but not a major role in the next one, just an introduction as I hope Chris Nolan continues to make Batman movies for along time. Christian Bale is the best batman to hit the big screen and I would hate to have no more batman in the future.
BATMAN is the only believable superhero in my mind, one that could actually have a chance at being a real life hero.
LETS FACE IT, NO ONE WILL EVER BE AS GOOD AS HEATH. I SAY KEANU REAVES CAN BE A GOOD RIDDLER, HE HAS THE PHSIQUE AND JONNY DEPP CAN TAKE A SHOT AT JOKER. BOTH MUST IE AT THE END OF THE FILM THOUGH
okay…. I read through this list of good and bad ideas. I have read the comics, watched the cartoons, and watched the shows and moives. I personally dont know what Nolan’s plan is, know one does, but him. This is Nolan’s story of Batman, not the comic book version.
To those who say Heath Ledger was the best, this part is for you. He was the best Joker SO FAR, this is true. Nolan already said, he will not be bringing the Joker back. At first, the next movie was meant to have batman, and joker, and MAYBE another villain. But sense Heath’s death, they locked up that script, and are trying to move on. But remember, in the future The Joker can not die with Heath. Some day, someone esle will play The Joker. It will be tuff for the writers, and the director, and the actor who do the part. But will happen someday, and truth be told, it is possible to ALMOST make another Joker (in a differnt batman story), just as good. Heath played Nolan’s Joker, great. If it was some else’s Joker, he might of not done aswell.
This story od batman is meant to be more realistic, as if it could really happen. And if done correctly any viilain can be done.
Now, that idea of the next movie being more about Bruce Wayne is a cool idea if you think about it, and a cool direction that noone has done before, “that i know of”. This next film, if they plan on doing at all, should, and most likely would have to be darker. Personally, I think they could go with Riddler to keep a type of “crazy” involved. Catwoman… it could, if done correctly. Im not going to say how it showed be done, but everyone knows what would be done if she was added. And you just need to remember something… Were you expecting the actor who play scarecrow to do so? And the same for Heath Ledger? When people first said he was The Joker, mostly everybody didn’t think that was the best idea, no one could see him pull it off. But he proved them wrong. No matter what villain will appear in Nolan’s upcoming story of batman. You will not expect the actor he will get to play the part(s).
And for the “Johnny Depp” as a villain, maybe cause he’s a great actor, but one, he’s already had his big role, it’s a very little chance that he could play another big role with out making it look or sound like his Captain Jack Sparrow.
And just saying, next to Riddler, I would like to see another Mr. Freeze come to the screen. Not saying it’s Nolan’s job, but I don’t want to live the rest of my life with Mr. Freeze being a muscled man, with a canon, and an army of bad guys. I would like to see the classic look of a skinny guy, with a fish bowl on his head, a revolver, and MAYBE two polar bars. But that’s most likely not going to happen.
This next movie will be out of anyone’s reach to control, but Nolan. I’m fan of all the villains, and the heros. I’m a fan of the movie done correctly based on comics, games, and just as a movie itself.
oh yeah, I forgot… I also personally think that Michael Hall might be a good Riddler. He places Dexter if anyone doesnt know
The next Batman villain should be His Butler Alfred.
These are good ideas, i am a big batman fan an finally my prays have been answered for all those who love batman not just the movies but also the cartoons an the comics then you know that the dark side is portrayed as it always should, for me i think that the catwoman is going to be bruce new love interest she will carry the sex appeal an bring a twist of things Mr freeze, penguin, riddler, i don’t think these kinds can fit in the chemistry right now i mean it can be done but it has not been set up this way.
For me the villans-
Catwoman
Deadshot
Blackmask
Bain
raiz al ghul an if you did’nt know what that means its Head of the Demon, food for thought lol
Either way its all up to nolan i loved Batman Begins he brought the world of batman that i always saw to picture, the third am going to see it an its going to be a classic an a favorite collection.
Its a proven fact heath destroyed jacks performance as the joker. I think they should recast the joker in future batman movies. I also think the should wait a while till he appers again. they should have depp as the riddler, and angelina as the cat woman which they did give reference to a cat woman apperance in the dark knight. when they do decide to reintroduce the joker in another batman theres is no doubt in my mind that no performance will ever compare to what heath did for all the batman fans and his performance was oscar worthy and will never!!! be done better then he did it.
Ok first of all, Heath Ledgers acting is monumental for dark knight, trying to reproduce would destroy, so you need to get an equally good role to match it. Catwomen would really be lame, i mean people are saying about the suit related quote, it was a joke, don’t take everything in the script as a possible link, also i read an article about the new batmanc comic planning to kill him off, and it clicked to make the final installment monumental, KILL BATMAN OFF now the next question is who.. now i think The Riddler would be PERFECT he should The Jokers “downfall” say.. is his reluctance to kill batman - “and i won’t kill you because your just too much fun” - Imagine The Riddler trying to get vengeance for The Joker, i think this film should focus on The Riddler a lot more than it did The Joker. As for cast.. i’ll let Nolan decide that, I never would of chose Ledger for the Joker and he was SENSATIONAL
Reply guys
~ Lance.
All Hale Heath ledger
darryl, you are one of the biggest tools ive ever come across on the net. get a life you arrogant twat. The Dark Knight is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
You can have your opinion, but don’t share it in such a rude, arrogant way
I think that heath ledger was a great joker( best so far), but I also think riddler would be great also. the penguin i am not fond with, but the movie well still be awesome.
Darryl, what movie were you watchin, it was the best batman movie ever made you idiot. Stick to the sound of music you loser.
what about H.Dent people? they didnt let him shine. THEY HAVE TO LET HIM ACTUALLT BECOME THE VILLIAN HE IS!! honestly, i believe they should bring 2 face back due to the fact that he is a villian(a well known villian) and thats how it should be! let him come back (with a serious case of split personality). the villian who should be in the movie with him is black mask! with him being the mob boss, it’ll be a good look to have him teamed up with the x-d.a. 2face dent. bring 2face back at around 40 minutes into the film as the black masks silent partna. he comes out of hiding and do his thing!! AND DO NOT BRING ROBIN TO THE BIG SCREEN YET!!! BATMAN HAS TO ROLL SOLO AT LEAST 1 MORE TIME BEFORE HE HAS HIS SIDE KICK WITH HIM.
i think johnny depp could definately portray a villian well , also i could possibley see john travolta as the penguin, but that would involve a lot of work
actually since his girlfriend or female interest died in the movie , catwoman might not be a stupid suggestion after all, plus the film will need to feature another high profile character to follow the joker
catwoman could die half way through then give batman a reason to come back out of hiding and fight crime again, very brief
I am not entirely convinced that The Joker did kill the next movie I read on a blog about a possible outcome for the next movie and it sounds like it could work. http://thinkitivity.blogspot.com/2009/03/riddle-me-this-riddle-me-that-who-will.html
I dunno, I heard rumors of Johnny Depp as the Riddler, which could be really interesting. We all know the broad range of acting Johnny has, from a candy factory owner (Willy Wonka), to our favorite pirate, Jack Sparrow. I wonder what he might bring to this new role.
This is quite a up-to-date info. I think I’ll share it on Digg.
In response to the comment made by Darryl. What movie did you watch? If it was one of the older batman movies than i completely understand where you are coming from. If not than i would have to completely disagree with you. The dark knight was probably the best motion picture i have seen in my life.
When i first saw Batman Begins, to be honest i was not utterly amazed, i just thought of it as another good movie. Its acting was not anything different than i had seen before (although i was good). But when i saw the Dark knight for the first time, i came out of the theater in complete awe. But what characterized my view of that movie for the rest of my life? One word, The Joker. The way Heath Ledger was into the role was astounding, how he got into character will forever be in my imagination. After hearing news of his death i was devastated. With this in mind i cant think of anyone to bring back the role of The Joker. In later movies i would like to see this role incorporated, but at the same time i don’t want to see it due to the fact that it can be completely ruined if the actor cant perform to all of our expectations and pollute the image of the real Joker in our minds. If they were to bring back the role in later films, my idea would be to leave the Joker out for a couple years (assuming they make a few more movies) and have the actor chosen for the role, train as much as possible to be like the Joker played by Heath Ledger. If this happens, then i will be anticipating the next appearance of the Joker.
PS. RIP Heath Ledger, that situation was very unfortunate, and my condolences to the family.
PSS. Good luck Christopher Nolan, hope all the best!
Okay well here is my thought they can’t replace the joker with anyone i know he is batman’s arch nemesis type thing but it can’t be done Heath was the absolute best Joker anyone has ever seen, its also not fair to him he died off that movie. The movies before begins, considering to me they were kinda childish like kid movies.. Michael Keaton did a good job. But George Clooney or the others no not at all.. Catwoman played by Hallie Berry in the 2006 movie that movie i didn’t like as well… i can’t, and don’t think there is any way to make a good villain on it.. Scarecrow is already caught apparently would be in the asylum of course. Two-Face, well they did a good job on him but i also didn’t like that. Rachel’s death as well was kinda a surprise to me but it could explain the other movies that Batman is trying to get some women but never can fall in love with them. Riddler i agree was kinda bad as well it was a like a comedy movie. Riddler isn’t supposed to be like that, he is supposed to be somewhat dark and maybe some comedy in it.. but Jim Carrey, he is funny and all i and i enjoy his acting and all but that wasn’t a part for him. Good Job with morgan Freeman as”Lucius Fox” i loved that he did very well on the acting and all. If they think on remaking all of them as much as i don’t wanna say it i don’t like robin that much in there to me he seems more like a wuss.. but if it has to be done get a better actor then “Chris O’Donnell” he was kinda a bad and kinda child like to me. Batman movies are not supposed to be child games and like that they are supposed to be like dark and mysterious and stuff like that. So what we need is very serious actors and that know how to get the job done.
2Face will be back. Aaron Eckhart already told reporters that TDK is the introduction of 2Face and he has signed on to play him in the third film.
That is a fact. I read it in a magazine. I dont remember what magazine, but it was before the release of TDK. Maybe it was Superherohype.com
But 2Face will be pissed to know that Batman ruined his life and placed him in Arkham. 2Face will be freed to come back as Dent the DA and will have surgery on his face. BEST KEPT SECRET.
Dent will hunt down batman and Gordon will try to protect batman (again).
Dent will freak out somehow and cut his face off to become 2Face again (Original Comics).
2Face will become the villan to Gotham and go crazy and Batman will save the day.
Also I believe that the Penguin could come in and replace the Mayor. Maybe 2Face can kill the mayor and Penguin could take his spot.
Maybe a three way power struggle between ex DA Dent 2face, Penguin and Batman.
Just a hunch. But EckHart is back as 2Face and BAle is signed on as Batman. That is for sure.
They maybe keeping this hush hush. Because thats how you keep people talking about batman for the next 2 years and builds hype! I know some things bout Hollywood. Theres more to making movies than sitting behind a camera.
2FACE v. BATMAN for real this time!
Keifer Sutherland as joker!! Just look at his grin - Perfect evil grin as Nicholson had in Batman 1989…
Apart from that i havnt a clue…Its good to keep guessing though!!!
Its probably going to be a complete random who turns out fabulous
…We hope.
johnny Depp for Riddler
yes, and no, heath ledger dieing did mess the joker up, but that dosnt mean there couldnt be another batman movie, there is plenty of villans that with the money of movies these days could make just as good, hell, they could have joker in the next one, just not as a main character, like maybe just be like a reference in the next one explaining why hes not there, like hes in the arkum aslyum ya know, i mean at the end of dark night he was just hanging there for the police to collect him, and hes not going to jail cuz hes insane, could even show him in a cell in a straight jacket with his head down laughing for a sec, but not show his face, and if they show his face maybe like in the dark, but then just move on with the story to whatever villains they decide to put in it, its that simple, the franchise isnt dead, or at least it better not be.
“Darryl” your an idiot for posting your last comment, this batman was great, and you dont take children to see a movie called “The Dark Knight” so next time dont take ur children to see a movie that has a pg-13 rating,u cheap ass, moving on i think they could def find a penguin character, i mean i never thought that Jack N would ever be beat in his roll as the Joker, but look at what Heath L did, he was awsome, if they did carry the joker into the next movie, the only person that could be similar would have to be johnny D, and only in short burst like they did with the Scarecrow, and theyll add in the Riddler for the next one, and they will also add Catwomen, its portrayed in “They Dark Knight” watch the movie a couple of times an you’ll catch it.
I hope some one reads this as i put a lot of thought into it.. by now we all know that the riddler will be in the next film.. but what will his story be how can you work him into the story and keep nolans style of movie intact.. i read somewhere that gotham hires ed nygma to investigate who the batman is but how would he change into the riddler.. what ever they do they are going to have to try to out do tdk.. i had a thought the villians would be the black mask clayface and riddler clayface being the minor villian but not as minor as scarecrow in tdk.. all three of these villians can tie together and you can even have a cameo by selina kyle.. the black mask i think would be a perfect role for eddie murphy.. i think eddie with nolans direction would be a perfect match.. comedians can play very dark characters if directed right think one hour photo and the number 23… the black masks purpose in life is to kill bruce wayne not batman so he starts by killing people close to bruce… this will only more push batman into seclusion making him more tragic and conflicted in the process…clayface could be played by anyone they can tie his origin story to the first clayface of being an actor that is playing a dark villian so starts to kill the cast he can then start to use makeup and disguises to impersonate other people in order to kill or extort whatever thus donning the name clayface… the riddler can be investigating who batman is and will actually accuse bruce wayne as being the batman.. nygma claims that bruce wayne is batman after a long and expensive investigation.. when the black mask shows up to kill bruce wayne who is being impersonated by clayface batman saves fake bruce wayne from being saved… after that the city thinks that nygma is just scamming the city out of money because he accused wayne and wayne was just saved by the batman.. nygma goes crazy a vows to prove to the city/batman that they were wrong and he is to smart to be wrong he is smarter than everyone especially the batman thus changing into the riddler.. now with black mask trying to kill wayne and riddler trying to kill batman.. this gives wayne/batman to much to handle.. they could have someone like a nightwing or older robin to help out.. this is what i was thinking…
also i was thinking that two face isnt dead and that they should reprise the role of the joker… but not in the next film.. jokers ace in the hole was harvey and still could be if gotham finds out that harvey is alive and is now a villain it will still ruin the city.. they can reintroduce the two in the fourth film along with a catwoman and harley quinn as jokers sidekick..
eckhart still being 2face but here is my take on the joker.. the time lasp between the end of tdk and the 4th film could be possibly 5-10 years making for a older thus different not two different look for the joker my pick hands down then only one that could pull this role off would be Daniel Day Lewis (there will be blood, gangs of new york) that would be perfect…
one last thing does anyone think that the sonar super computer gets moved to the batcave being that big screen batman sits in front of in the batcave…
