This film seems to be written by a bunch of lost souls. It is common place to find so many starving artists in a hell hole like L.A. -- and without any real life to love. What is it about the hunger for fame that sets so many out on this journey? It is not just the love of acting as that can be done anywhere. It is only in L.A. that people really seek to be in the movies. At that I think that lonely fools hungry for empty hearts deserve to be starving. As starving as these idiots whom put together a silly film on no budget and travel to places to promote it. For what? Money or fame? What is important? Not that. This movie is as empty and is about being empty. I believe that is why so many fools love it. They know that empty chase and can relate.

It has some moments of rare beauty but it also has some moment of lameness, like the whole of the main female character - great acting performance, rubbish character development.
Awful title too.
And yet...something really special about it. Damn it for making me care.

This movie is so stupid. I really don't see why anyone would even bother to watch this outside of a school classroom. Alex Holdridge's writing and direction veers in every direction and ultimately sucks. I can't believe how bad the acting is. How can a movie that is so bad make it into theaters...or why would anyone care to write such good things about it, as if to mislead the public? Honestly people -- don't bother!!

I was surprised by the positive reviews at RT too, though when I looked the other day it was still at 100% A closer look at them shows (and herein lies the flaw in RT) that most of them are pretty tepidly positive.

On balance, I found more to like about it than to dislike. My biggest complaint is that some of the dramatic side trips it took tended to kill the momentum and goodwill it earned when staying focused on the boy and the girl.

Still, it was frequently funny and lovely to look at.

Lane's review wasn't a full-on rave, though. It seemed mixed but affectionate, and of course, had Before Sunrise as the ur-example of this film. (Really, will any film in this genre find a girl to play the girl who's as great as Julie Delpy?) But you're right about the amount of space devoted to it.
