A number of big name titles have been added to the line-up of enxt months’ Toronto Film Festival. There’s going to be some overlap with the just-announced NYFF, including Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, and Che, which the festival’s Cameron Bailey says will be shown “the first time as two separate films on two separate nights. People also will get to see it as one back-to-back epic with a 15- minute intermission. You can choose your Che.” One of the few Cannes holdovers passed over by NYFF, Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York, will also screen at TIFF.
Also of note:
- Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno, which will open in the US on Halloween.
- Richard Linklater’s Me and Orson Welles, starring Christian McKay, Claire Danes and Zac Efron.
- A “romantic road comedy” called Management, starring Jennifer Aniston.
- Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, which is looking for a new distributor now that WIP no longer exists.
- Inju, la bĂȘte dans l’ombre, a thriller set in Japan by Barbet Schroeder.
- Rian Johnson’s follow-up to Brick, The Brothers Bloom
- Easy Virtue, a Colin Firth/Jessica Biel (!) vehicle based on the Noel Coward play (!!!)
- Michael Winterbottom’s Genova, also starring Firth
Wish I were going…*sigh*
Happy that I live here and will definitely be going! Great that Kaufman’s film is showing, and happy to see the new Rian Johnson one, too. And of course Che. Should be a great festival.
