Southern states were Democratic because Abraham Lincoln belonged to the Republican party and practically no Southerner would be associated with it. Party ideals have greatly shifted throughout time, it is just a label, so beneath it is where you need to look and how it coincides with the era and culture. I also think Atticus Finch is the greatest template for the kind of person everyone should strive to be. I agree with the McCarthyism comment and want to blatantly point out "Good Night and Good Luck" because of the rise and prominence of diluted information in today's media. Screw FOX News.
