I saw JCVD last week at a screening at my school and thought it was excellent. The opening scene is a great contrast to what the actual movie is. Bottom line, Jean-Claude gives his best performance and one that all fans could be happy about: he plays a true hero, a man who through anguish finds himself and can be happy about his life. JCVD is a must see!

I am not a big fan of Van Damme - realistically, the only movie I semi enjoyed was Bloodsport and I was 16 at the time. As I get older, I am very critical of movies to the point where I find it difficult to sit through many of them. Having said that, I think that this movies deserves some credit in shining a light on an actor who I thought was not an actor. The movie helped deliver him in a light where we did see a different side. He wasnt the hero, he was a guy who brought alot of judgement and ridicule on himself and is trying to deal with it. I dont believe he actually saved the day in the movie, he did not recieve any glory or acknowledgment in getting put in the wrong situation, and in the end...ended up in Jail, You may have your opinion about the story itself, but give credit where credit is due. Jean Claude van damme's performance was phenominal. The emotion and vulnerability he shows in his soliloquay was moving even for someone like me, who finds it hard to be empathetic.

Your review was decent until the end. I am indeed a Van Damme fan, but it is crazy that anyone would think his acting in this movie was anything less than excellent. This was truly a different side of Van Damme and showed he can really act, and do it well. Blame it on his past of redundant movies or poor scripts that never challenged anything new in his repertoire of acting ability and eventually typecasted himself. Regardless, this film was very moving, tense and a good watch, regardless of being a fan or not. You cannot help but see the man in a new light and in my opinion respect him for the risk he took in this film and pouring much of himself out to be judged yet again.
