It is just that it is made by a westerner and distributed by "Fox Searchlight Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures"...hence it made a global opening.... India is portrayed as a pathetic slum which west wanted to see as they do not want to tarnish the image which they comply with. Rest stupidity of congress to take the credit is cheap and they should try to do something for country rather than taking a bath in the glory of some movie. The book was written by an Indian - it is in no way saying that India is a country of barbarians that need to be civilised by whites - to believe that is to believe that Trainspotting was saying that the Scottish are a bunch of violent drug takers that need the English to help them - clearly rubbish. Etinne's problem is she is culture blind - what we're seeing is a different culture and you're the one saying it's bad and barbaric from your own view - so you're the one who's got the problem. I think the Indian culture comes across as lively, colourful and energetic - filled with great potential, but with the same touch of corruption and violence you'll find anywhere in the west.
