The End of America, a new documentary based on a book by Naomi Wolf and directed by Ricky Stern and Annie Sundberg (The Devil Came on Horseback), will premiere tomorrow night at the Hamptons Film Festival. And then, it’s going to be available … everywhere. It’s the first production of IndiePix Studios, and the company has developed a unique plan to get the movie out there via a ton of different means. After its festival premiere it’s going straight to streamability via Snag Films, and then, according to a press release, the doc will “flood venues around the country, from special screenings to theatrical exhibitions, from book stores and merchants that sell DVDs to internet sources for renting, streaming and downloading the film.”
As far as I know, it’s the first film to go to Snag directly from its festival premiere. Presumably, the goal is to enable the film, which “addresses issues of freedom, dictatorship, civil liberties and democracy - and warns that the United States’ claims on constitutional civil liberties are fast eroding,” to “go viral” in the days leading up to the election. It’ll be an interesting experiment; so far, most of the films on Snag have been titles that had been available in other forms for awhile, and this may be a test of whether or not, when given the oportunity to embed and discuss a brand-new political documentary, bloggers will pounce. I’m seeing the film tomorrow in the Hamptons and will have more thoughts after that.

I saw this film in the Hamptons last night and it was horrible. First, the film was late to arrive and so we sat for an hour listening to live commentary from Alec Baldwin and Naomi “Preach to You” Watts. Then the film played and we had to hear it all over again. Naomi is out for one thing… to sell books. She is the ultimate hypocrite as her platform for personal succes comes from her ability to stand on stage and rant about how the Govrnm’t is scaring and tricking the American people so that the powerful in Washington can convert our nation into a Dictatorship. Meanwhile, Naomi is using the same tactic of using “FEAR” to sell her books and now her film. Her 10-steps to watch for sounds like a Tony Robbins tape. What a waste of time and $15. The best part of the night was seeing my donation money put to work… The Ross School gymnasium looks great when converted into a movie house.

Commercial ads INTERRUPTING stream docu-videos is the same moronic corporatism INTERRUPTING LIBERTY, duh… I’ll wait to watch this film ’til someone gives me one or it’s posted in low-res on youtube.

The End of America is a great movie that is relevant to the current political situations. Naomi Wolf could not have explained it any better. The DVD is out in stores and is a definite must watch.
What I cannot figure out about the Left in America is the constant haranguing of lost liberties…when it’s really the Left that has taken away more freedoms in the last 40 years - all in the name of protection and the public good. For Wolf to talk about lost liberties all of a sudden happening under Bush is ridiculous. It’s our Congress….almost every apsect of your life today is regulated…with criminal consequences if you disobey. How about a movie on that? That’s the real crime- our country is definitely not the same- we are not the Land of the Free. We are the Land of the Nanny. Car Seats, bike helmets, seatbelts, permits for this, for that, no smoking, gun bans, food ingredient bans, bans on fireworks (even on the 4th), curfews, music lyrics- I could go on and on- all results of do-good, lefty politicians and their laywers…the slow and ever-increasing stranglehold on our liberties. And Hollywood…c’mon…the constant movies about evil Republicans…and none about Democrats unless they’re glowing- such as the “Man From Plains”. Please….its YOU who are taking away our rights…by skewing the information so heavily that the average joe cannot have a truly informed opinion…just propoganda shoved down their throats.
