Movies from CinemaNow and Jaman are going to be available to TiVo subscribers in much the same way that movies from Amazon’s Video on Demand service have been for a while now. The deals give TiVo customers access to a couple of previously unavailable categories, including CinemaNow’s selection of Disney movies and Jaman’s catalog of independent and foreign films.
CinemaNow is also joining forces with Dell to expand the manufacturer’s efforts to pre-load PCs with movies. Customers can add movies from CinemaNow in $25 bundles that will be on the machines when they arrive at the buyer’s doorstep. Like Engadget I remain skeptical that this is a viable distribution strategy.
Netflix’s streaming service will be built into new Samsung Blu-ray players, something that should add significant market penetration to the movies available there. The two companies are also said to be working on further integration and the possiblities are, more or less, endless.
Netflix has also begun the process of making Watch Now available to Mac-based viewers by using Microsoft’s Silverlight technology format. The upgrade isn’t available to all Mac customers yet but the company has reitterated its goal to roll it out to everyone by the end of 2008.
But if you’re a Netflix AND and a TiVo subscriber you can watch those movies through that device.
The trend of making political documentaries available online for free (previously mentioned here) continues with films on this subject appearing on both Spout partner SnagFilms and Cinetic.
