Hey, i REALLY love the idea of making a world of warcraft movie! And wtf? i suppose you haven’t read the history behind wow ? If they would make a movie about everything or not just a movie.. several of movies they could make a serie. If you go on google and search for info about world of warcraft you will notice their is more than just material to make a movie. For example ive newly read about the nagas and how they step appart from the nightelfs and went to hide in the maelstrom. In their own city. And i think blizz could also make books i would definitly read them. I do admitt that i like sci-fi books and books such as lord of the rings. Soo if you complain about that blizzard don’t have any material, you should really read your homework. But i do agree that its a dissepointment that they are going to make “Real people” movie. I would pref animated as i gues most of you guys are going to do. And about the money. As they said they are going to make the movie not just for the gamers but more for the “globe” and they defintly have the material.

erm, Daghlara ur waaay off this time. it started with the legion trying to take over azeroth (and drain the magic of the land or something). when they failed the first attempt they sent footsoldiers, aka corrupted orcs, to ease the second attempt. the possesed medivh, a powerful guardian (here possesed by a dreadlord demon ,varimathas i believe he was called) and an orc warlock (gahz’rul or something) summoned a portal, linking azeroth and the orc homeworld outland together.
so the orcs did what they were supposed to do, they caused chaos and made it alot easier to invade by the legion.
HUMANS VS. ORCS NOT UNDEAD!!!
though a while after the invasion the curruption of the orcs dissapated and they became a much more peaceful race.
the only link to the undead is that the orc warlock who summoned the portal was granted power from the legion and (he was dead, thus a spirit) his spirit were fused with the armor in the frozen throne. the original lich king (before arthas joined the movement so to speak) was a powerful dead orc warlock!
still no war strictly between the orcs and the undead at the beginning.

As u were talking so visciously about the storyline of warcraft i gotta correct u as u are wrong abot the beggining. The main hatred isn’t between orcs and humans but betwwen orcs and undead or as te call themsef Forseken. And those 4 reasons ain’t good enough for a company like Blizzard to turn down their project.

and a concentration efort in making more,or faster expansion of wow,or even concentrating theyre efforts in making a w4(warcraft 4) i will rather w8 for the expansions/w4,and watch looney toons by then:}

You can hardly say there is no story line because there is a hole Worldofwarcraft lore AND what do you think they do on RP realms? make it up as they go along!? nooo theres a worldofwarcraft lore to follow understand. There are loads of moments in Worldofwarcraft that are part of a story line, where do you think Arthas/the lich king came from..the sky? no he is the son of the now dead king of lordaeron…thats a story right there! and you’ve played fo nine months on a pve server probably so you wont know the storylines+you havent been to outland or northrend, northrend is a stroy in its self, so dont talk crap understand.

why not do multiple movies, have each story take place and then some how combine them in some form or way. that way you wont piss off the fans and you could make some really awesome movies. I would love to see this, and also it would make a lot of money too.

Wow why the hell would you compare MGS to warcraft. you know what Warcraft 2 even had a story line it was all about destroying the demons from another realm that pretty much controlled the orc. Its just like a book, my dad played that game and he does not play WoW but still would love to see the movie and im sure there is more people like him out there. so you cant just count the people that play world of warcraft.

agree harry, dont argue about things u dont know, the story is great. That being said, I would love the movie, and I think many would, if if contained the whole storyline, from the time the titans ruled the universe (and the shaping of the burning legion) to the time of the orc and human war, or even to the time of the plague of undeath.

Wow, that’s all I can say. You seem to believe that World of Warcraft has no story line, and that it consists purely of innane quests such as “Go get me that shoe”. While it is true that some of the early quests in WoW are rather bland and pointless (especially on the Alliance side) the story is far deeper than you seem to realise. More than the games, Warcraft has a rich plotline that has been covered through a number of novels, comics, mangas, and other sources. Just go to Wowwiki.com, everything you could ever want to know about Warcraft lore is there. The plotline is indeed very strong, and they have plenty to pull from to make a movie. That being said, I hope they focus on making it a warcraft movie, and not try to model it after the playstyle of World of Warcraft. That one decision would be a major error in judgement. If they focus on the storyline of the world, however, I see no obstacles set before them. Your assertion that Warcraft’s story is undeveloped is not only unfair, it’s wrong. Research what your talking about before you go spouting this inane nonsense.

i would put money on them making it a CG film over live action. it would look alot better and all they would need are voice actors. also if they make the movie then it would most likely have to do with the horde vs alliance, with some monsters in the way to stir things up, have to do with raids and such through out the game, or just a completly new story line thats a hybrid of both of these

Also by the way, the movie isn’t only going to be seen by people who play the game. Everyone has heard of WoW even if they haven’t played it, and what will probably happen if the movie is good, which I think it will be, is that more people will start playing the game. The money they make on the movie is not just from people paying for tickets. They ARE taking their time with the movie too, which tells me it’s not going to suck. And even though WoW doesn’t give that much story, the previous games do, so real fans of the franchise do have some idea of what is happening. But there are books as well, so it’s not like there isn’t a story behind the game, the story is actually HUGE. You just have to find it, and any real fan of the game is going to want to do just that. I just started playing, like I said before, and I’m reading some of the books, and I find out what I can online, because I think the game is awesome and I want to know as much as I can. WoW fans everywhere are ooking frward t this movie and I think you’re wrong about it. Lord of the Rings was a HUGE success, and this movie will be too.

I agree, movies made after games in general usually aren’t very good. With the exception of resident evil, game movies usually suck. But I do want to see this movie made, because as you say, the game doesn’t give much of a backstory. I’ve learned bits&pieces of the story from a friend who has been playing warcraft since it came out, and from youtube, but I want to know more about the story, and playing the game doesn’t answer my questions. Hopefully the movie willl tell us the story of how everything came to be, why the horde and alliance became such great enemies, etc. I love the graphics used in the trailers, and if they use those in the movie, i think they couuld make smething great. Let’s hope they do. If it’s anything like the Lord of the Rings it will be an awesome movie.

I think the movie should be a cinematic developed internally because they have some of the bar none best animations and trailers - everything always looks phenomenal.

Aside that, I don’t think the movie will be a flop either way… Fans want a movie and the game is so profitable, why not just put it out? Give back to the community that has made them so wealthy.

Even if the movie isn’t a huge grosser I don’t think it will be a loss because quite frankly ticket sales aren’t the only money a movie makes there is always money on merchandising etc and other things.

The budget was what it was for a reason, they know what they are doing.

In my personal opinion a game with such a huge following, so many years in production (I think Warcraft itself dates back to 1994? With Orcs vs Humans) should have a movie put out… The worst thing that could happen is the movie could break even and not be great. I wouldn’t even care though seeing the game brought to life as a movie would be fun.

Look at Blizz’s history though, they don’t really let that happen.

Blizzard is strangely one of the few companies I’ve seen say, we will release our product on this date… but never do. They push back the release at will without a single shred of worry of loosing fans or public interest in their products. Either way when it’s finally released it’s usually a hit which makes up for Quality over Quantity mentality these days. I would imagine we should all expect the same out of a movie based on a Blizzard game. Talk big, spit out dates, but wait 2 or more years past it’s release date and you’ll get trailers to tease you back into it again. In the end it will never be as great a playing a game watching a movie based on it. The level of emotion and interactivity with games is what makes them unique. You are the movie not a spectator which is why I suspect this movie will be made in mind for people not familiar or so hard core fans of Warcraft. It needs to reel in new audiences and inform basic gamers into a story which is either part of the Warcraft world or newly written. If you ask me what I would wish to see is a movie from Blizzard. Not a live action but a Computer Animated one, using their incredible CG skills and story creating abilities.

I think its funny how you think that only people who play wow are going to see this movie. The movie has an enormous budget and the people at wow know a thing or two about making something a success. Even if people dont know what the hell wow is, they will be drawn in by the movie itself. Knowing blizzard, its going to get amazing reviews, like all of their projects. which will lead to many more people eventually seeing the movie, and you can obviously see how long its taking them. they arent going to settle for anything with this movie. its going to be huge and people will remember it.

One simple thing.

If they make the movie the same type of cinematics as the wrath gate cut scene and WotLK Trailer the movie will be a huge success because they have one of the best story line’s ever and it’s not all gonna be compacted in to one movie it will be over 3 or 4 movies and still after that they will probably make a T.V series to go along with the movie because people will be longing for more that’s how damn good the movie will be.

So stop being a Fuck wit and making Dumb Ass comments when u obviously dont know anything about Blizzard,WoW/Warcraft,It’s fans or the Storyline.

When comparing to Lord of the Rings, Warcraft has a WAAY bigger plot than Lord of the Rings, it starts with Warcraft 1, goes all the way to warcraft 3 frozen throne, books, comics…

wow kinda ruined my life and messed me up, BUT i forced my self to quit this addictive Awesome, Mega, Heavenly game. the fact is that if Blizzard (the ultimate accomplishment team) does tell all of us fans there gonna do something then of course they will not only complete the thing they’ll Own the idea completely. The idea for a Warcraft movie is fantastic and is argued heaps on, just like Halo because of the possible mishaps that could occur. Yet face it Millions! will see it, people because…

. even to people unaware of what WC really is, they will see it as a typical Phantasy movie and many like to see movies like that. And then they’ll be blown away and inform others.

. Next is because gamers from all game types such as HALO, STARCRAFT,DIABLO, LOTRO, WAR-HAMMER ONLINE and More! will most likely be tempted to see this Game-to-movie feature and how it turns out (which obviously will be Awesome!).

This is soooo funny!! Everyone is crying about “They’re not gonna tell the whole story!” “They’re gonna mess it up!” “It’s not gonna even be as good as LOTR!”
1: Of course they aren’t going to tell the whole story with the 1st Movie… that would be Franchise Suicide! and the movie would be like 6 months long! LOL
2: They could honestly do anything they wanted to with this movie… as long as it doesn’t completely contridict what we already know about the Lore of all the games combined. This is largely because of the TIME FRAME they have chosen. BETWEEN Warcraft III and World of Warcraft. Duh!! Nobody knows anything about that timeline because as far as the games are concerned….nothing exists there yet!
3: This is NOT a LOTR type movie…this is going to be a War movie, NOT a Quest movie….so you can’t even begin to compare the 2.
4: LISTEN UP KEVIN KELLY!!!!!! You obviously don’t know CRAP about the game since you ONLY played for 9 months and didn’t get into ANY of the Lore of it all. So as far as I’M concerned….you’re opinion on this whole subject is irrelivent.
5: Does anyone honestly think that, after all the time and effort that Blizzard has put into the game series, that they are just going to let a Sub-par movie hit the silver screen with their name on it? I think not! They have been good enough to create a multi billion dollar franchise with these games….I’m pretty sure they are going to take the same care in making a live action movie to the same effect. They aren’t just going to say “here ya go producer/director guy…you have the rights to the movie now….go for it! Let us know how it goes…” LOL that is just retarded to automatically assume that would be the outcome.
6: Case in point….obviously they didnt think it was ready for a 2009 release….it’s been pushed back to 2011….. looks like a good sign to me. I would tell them myself…take your time, do it right…that way we know it will decimate all expectations…good and bad.
