Your argument for AVTAK is BEYOND weak.

I love when so-called experts give their ill-informed opinions on Bond movies. Makes me skip most articles like this except to correct the steadfastly ever present misinformation in 99.9% of them.

I don’t care what the property is, *winking* to the audience like that is pure cheese. Plain and simple.

The fact is that the line worked perfect, another reason OHMSS is beloved by Bond fans to this day. Even Pierce Brosnan said “You were expecting somebody else?” in his first trailer for GOLDENEYE.

Bond was not exactly THE DARK KNIGHT. Bond films were winking to the audience from the get go. As Pussy Galore proved.

There was only one other person besides me laughing at that line in the theater.

I have to disagree. Why would you want to call attention to that fact in your film? It’s like saying, “Hey! Look! That ain’t Sean Connery! Wink, wink!” What if Christian Bale stops playing Batman, and say Jake Gyllenhaal picks up the role. Then in “The Caped Crusader”, a third Nolan Batman film, in the opening scene Batman gets in a fight, gets roughed up a bit, and then says into the camera, “Boy, the other guy had it easier!” I don’t think that would go down too well.
