Criticizing the cheesiness of a James Bond movie is like jumping into a swimming pool and saying it's too wet. Isn't that the point of it all?

The "Farewell to Arms" line was not cheese. It was a nod to Ernest Hemingway, appropriately so since that particular scene was filmed at Hemingway's home in Key West, Florida.

Sean, did I ever say other Bond movies DON'T say the name in the movie? I just said it's one of my pet peeves. And when did I claim to be an "expert"? It's an article about cheesy Bond movie lines, get a grip. You might want to think about trying prozac, because you come off as a bit bitter and unhinged.

Just as an FYI...in reference to your AVTAK issue above...

"Doctor No" is said THROUGHOUT the film...

"From Russia With Love" is written by Bond on a file photo of Tanya Romanova early on in the film...

"Goldfinger" is said THROUGHOUT the film...

"Thunderball" - M informs, "Codename: THUNDERBALL."

"You Only Live Twice"
Blofeld - "They told me you were assassinated in Hong Kong."
Bond - "Yes - this is my second life."
Blofeld - "You only live twice, Mr. Bond."

"OHMSS"
Marc Ange Draco - "If I knew, I wouldn't tell Her Majesty's Secret Service...but I might...tell my future son-in-law."

"Diamonds Are Forever" - OK, your argument works here. ONE for you, SIX for me thus far...

"Live and Let Die" - is sung by a lounge singer at the Filet of Soul in the film.

"The Man With The Golden Gun" is said throughout the film.

"The Spy Who Loved Me" - Another one for you. TWO to EIGHT.

"Moonraker" is said throughout the film.

"For Your Eyes Only" is written on the file folder given to Bond at the beginning and is said by Melina in the final moments of the film. "For your eyes only, darling..."

"Octopussy" is said throughout the film.

"A View To a Kill" [insert your example]

"The Living Daylights" [insert your example]

"License to Kill" is said throughout this film and about 90% of the others.

"GoldenEye" is said throughout the film.

"Tomorrow Never Dies" is the name of Carver's publication in the film and appears several times.

"The World Is Not Enough"

Elektra - "I could have given you the world."
Bond - "The world is not enough."
Elektra - "Foolish sentiment."
Bond - "Family motto." (referencing information given in OHMSS)

"Die Another Day" is said in the film by Bond confronting Gustav Graves. "So you live to die another day."

"Casino Royale" is the name of the casino Bond and Le Chiffre play at in the film.

"Quantum of Solace" is one for you...

So...THREE instances of no mention of the title in the film...

...NINETEEN where it is said or referenced BLATANTLY in the course of the movie.

Your argument for AVTAK is BEYOND weak.

I love when so-called experts give their ill-informed opinions on Bond movies. Makes me skip most articles like this except to correct the steadfastly ever present misinformation in 99.9% of them.

Wow, thanks for informing me that Sean Connery was a 1960s Bond superstar. Gee, I really had no idea.

I don't care what the property is, *winking* to the audience like that is pure cheese. Plain and simple.

Kevin, what you don't get is that Sean Connery was a 60's BOND SUPERSTAR -- Lazenby had ginormous boots to fill and that line "broke the ice." Go read the reviews back in the day.

The fact is that the line worked perfect, another reason OHMSS is beloved by Bond fans to this day. Even Pierce Brosnan said "You were expecting somebody else?" in his first trailer for GOLDENEYE.

Bond was not exactly THE DARK KNIGHT. Bond films were winking to the audience from the get go. As Pussy Galore proved.

Kevin, you left off my favorite:

"You always were a cunning linguist, James." - "Tomorrow Never Dies"

There was only one other person besides me laughing at that line in the theater.

Christian,

I have to disagree. Why would you want to call attention to that fact in your film? It's like saying, "Hey! Look! That ain't Sean Connery! Wink, wink!" What if Christian Bale stops playing Batman, and say Jake Gyllenhaal picks up the role. Then in "The Caped Crusader", a third Nolan Batman film, in the opening scene Batman gets in a fight, gets roughed up a bit, and then says into the camera, "Boy, the other guy had it easier!" I don't think that would go down too well.

With due respect, you're shooting blanks here. "This never happened to the other fella" in OHMSS was the perfect segue to get audiences over Sean Connery, and by all reports, the line made audiences laugh and applause.
Thank gawd nobody could txt "WTF?" in 1969...
