I'd read the Van Sant/Reichardt interview in BOMB with a great amount of excitement, but I have to say that outside one brief moment in that interview--when Reichardt speaks about stopping to help a woman whose car had broken down--I was not terribly impressed with that particular dialogue. This, though, this...It speaks for itself. I so appreciate that it's not the typical, mundane directorial interviews that we get most of the time. I think its really interesting to note the disparity that Reichardt points out between indie male directors and indie female directors. Todd Haynes can buy a house, yet Kelly Reichardt cannot. Also, while I wish we all weren't in this economic pickle, the film has become even more relevant than even a few months ago and I'm glad its provoking conversations about a topic we all are anxious about.
