Frank V. Ross’ Hohokam belongs to a small subgenre of films that I’ve seen at festivals over the past few years: Movies That I’d Love To Reccomend … If There Was Any Possible Way For You To See Them. Ray Carney booked Hohokam at his series at the Harvard Film Archive in 2007, and later that summer it screened at the New Talkies event in New York, but it otherwise had a limited life on the festival circuit, and for most of 2008 has gone unseen. But now, thanks to Indiepix, you can download Hohokam or buy the film on DVD. Blatant Self Promotion Alert: I wrote some notes for the release, which you can read on the movie’s Indiepix page. The trailer is embedded above.
FINALLY.
I found “Hohokam” to be easily the best film in the New Talkies series. I’m glad I can see it again now.
This is a movie I read about several months ago when I was trying to track down all the best recommended “Mumblecore” films (I know, I know, that’s a term they hate…); but I was disappointed to discover that it was not on Netflix, and still isn’t. How can I get netflix to carry this movie (or some site that will let you stream it for free…). As glad as I am that indieplex is selling the DVD, I really can’t afford to pay $25 for DVDs, nor do i really want to buy DVDs anyway. Any tips for me?
(Ditto for “Young American Bodies”, “Quiety On By”, and the Mumble Shorts –is there a site where I can see them?)
Finally, yes, but a $25 download? What?
