I think, ironically, some of the best to remake would not be cult movies. "The Road Warrior"- by way of "Children of Men". Kind of like what Zack Snyder did with "Dawn of the Dead", use elements of Mad Max 1 AND 2, but update it for an apocalyptic view from this NEW century. "The Breakfast Club" - pack that detention with millennials. The dialogue, the styles even the adults they counter would be so different, it would be similar only in the concept of kids stuck in one place, expressing about their life. It'd be a true updating - providing they truly give it a millennial voice. "The Goonies" I think would be a good one to remake for the millennials because they're the generation that made it what it was. The boomer generation made it from some sentimentalized "we generation" perception of their childhood. The X-ers rejected it, but the millennials were attracted to that same "we" sense, perhaps, and made it the cult hit it is now. Change the milieu, plot and adventure (I mean c'mon - pirates? Now?), populate it with savvy early twenty-first century tweenies, and you could have a genuinely cute kid adventure. Two other crime movies from the eighties would be good candidates - I'm surprised no one has attempted them already; "The Hit" and "52 Pickup." I think the key thing is that the story is TRANSLATEABLE to this era, despite the changes. "Wisdom" is an example of one that couldn't because they were blowing up PAPER RECORDS and that wouldn't jibe with this digital age. "Repo Man" is so based in 50's sci fi -new wave cool then, but it would seem hokey now. Both of these are examples of where you'd have to change them so much, it would be useless to call or promote them as remakes. If you're gonna' spend the money for the rights, spend it for something people are gonna' recognize and it's translateable to the current era and current appeal. Ironically, that tends to be the ones that did well THEN. Anything else get's maybe a "based on" line in the end credits but that's about it.

No! John Carpenter cannot remake his They Live! I love that movie! Ok yeah, it was cheesy but it was great B movie Cheese! And Roddy Piper! If he's not in it they can't redo it at all! I don't think any movie ever needs to be remade. If it was a great movie, then no need and if it sucked? All the more reason. Tell Hollywood to earn those over inflated paychecks by doing something original and quit dredging through old stuff and trying to make it new again.

I would love to see remakes of these 80's movies if they could be as good or better than the original: Better off Dead, Weird Science, Adventures in Babysitting, The Karate Kid, Lucas, Some Kind of Wonderful, Gremlins, and Joe vs. the Volcano. I'm not sure if any of them would work out because the teen angst of today is different than the teen angst of the 80's. The 80's Rock!!!!!!!

You are right. I keep forgetting that I'm so old that it's 25 years, not 15.

"Fifteen years after the release of the first movie..."

I think you need to check your math there; Repo Man came out in 1984. No way could that be mistaken for a 90's movie.

    So, 24 years after....

Who the hell would want to remake the Goonies... One Crazy Summer.... or the Money Pit? What is wrong with you? Honestly, I can understand some of your picks, but some of them are nowhere near cult classic, they are closer to movie obscurity, a select group enjoy them, and the John Cryer Classic Hiding Out is about as cult as the santa clase 2.

Seriously, certain movies would be great re-made.. but are you going to watch a goonies with the god damned jonas brothers?? or Shia LeBouef as Hoops McCann??

Think next time before you type

I would say, since it was relatively popular when it was released to theaters, placing as the ninth highest grossing film of 1985, that it is too popular and successful to be a cult classic.
