The Kanye video sticks out from the others for it's slickness. 1, 2, 4, 5 have a DIY feeling (even if they took an insane amount of time to edit or create effects for). In contrast, Love Lockdown is halfway between an homage to cheesy classic videos of the 80's and a commercial for an HDTV. I have to admit it is oddly memorable though. I certainly didn't go into it associating African tribesmen with the song, but now they go together like peanut butter and jelly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the shots of the Kanye mournfully singing with his back against a wall feels like an homage to dozens of 80's videos- can't think of which ones, but I feel like I've seen Sting, Hall & Oates, Annie Lennox all in that same setup. The nonsequitor exoticism feels very 80's too. Reminds me of the white horse running though the mist that appeared in lots of early videos, for no reason other than it was cheap to film. The neon women also seem to have jumped out of Do the Right Thing, for extra 80s credibility. Love Lockdown all seems like meaningless eye candy on one level, and on another, as you say, the sterile world Kanye inhabits contrasts nicely with the "wild" bushmen.
