This movie only comes to life when the first Japanese actor speaks. Good ramen is soul food and it must be cooked not from the soul but with the soul. Rather than listening to a remote interpretation just watch the movie and enjoy. I highly recommend.

Just watched it, it was actually pretty damn fine film. Fun and cute and made me want to get down to my local Asian grocery store to boot.

Unlike most fish out of culture movies, this one walked the line wonderfully between the outsider looking in, and the insiders looking out. The Japanese cast is wonderful and the filmmakers never surrendered to the oft used conceit of letting the Amercian girl suddenly speaking fluent Japanese or vice-versa. It is, surprisingly, worth watching.

oh, wow, this completely supports my advocacy for the banning of remakes. why watch a bland new version of The Karate Kid when you can watch a head-spinningly/scratchingly creative variation on it? all aspiring remakers should think twice about their future endeavors and see if they can come up with something akin to this. i have already ordered my The Ramen Girl t-shirt!
