True/False, that annual magical haven for nonfiction lovers in Columbia, Missouri, has announced a portion of their 2009 festival lineup. In addition to some festival circuit usual suspects (Sundance 2009 winners We Live in Public, Rough Aunties, Burma VJ and Afghan Star; LAFF 2008 winner Loot, and the Oscar-nominated Waltz with Bashir), there are a number of sneak previews and premieres that sound, based on their two-sentence pitches, to be well worth a look:

  • Carmen Meets Borat — “When the Borat crew came to Glod, Romania, they used people there to stand in for the fictional Kazakhstan. In this rollicking slice-of-life, we meet the real-life residents of Glod, including the forever-dreaming teenager Carmen.” Screened previously at IDFA.
  • Forgetting Dad –– “Rick Minnich (Homemade Hillbilly Jam) returns to T/F with a deeply personal doc about his father, who after a car accident became “the new Richard,” a man with no memory of his previous life.” Also previously seen at IDFA.
  • glastonburykids — “Post-Jackass offspring run amok in a privileged Connecticut suburb.” See the trailer above.
  • Necrobusiness –– “This richly entertaining true-crime story reveals something’s rotten in Lodz, Poland, as a ghoulish conspiracy is uncovered involving funeral directors and ambulance drivers.”
  • The War Against the Weak –– “This visually stunning history of the American eugenics movement offers stunning revelations about the links between American geneticists and Nazis.”

I’ll be at the festival and will be participating in a panel of sorts, about which I’ll have more details in the coming weeks. Check out the lineup here – anything else you think I must see?

I was at True/False this year and I have to say the Festival was amazing. The lineup was incredible giving me the oppertunity to view Rough Aunties, We Live in Public, Food Inc. and many more. The venues could not of been more fitting and each screening was filled. I am already excited to take part in next year festival.
