I saw Goodbye Solo today and was deeply moved by the simplicity, the under statement, the depth of this very wonderful film. It is totally lacking in sentimentality although it touches on a precarious subject.

How can you not notice the similarities between Man Push Cart and The Wrestler? Like Man Push Cart, The Wrestler is about a has been famous guy, with a deceased wife and kid he is not involved with trying to reclaim what made him famous, one a pop star one a wrestler who also works minimum wage type jobs to get by. i mean both are good, but thank God, Man Push Cart did not end with a speech telling me all about it!

I can't wait to see this. I love Bahrani's films, starting with Man Push Cart. Speaking of that film and Rick's posting about The Wrestler, did anyone else notice how similar the Wrestler is to Man Push Cart?

I also saw Goodbye Solo in Cleveland at the film festival. My husband and I LOVED the film. Wishing Ramin the best and thanking him for coming to Cleveland to get his award!

You have to see his other films! Bahrani is the best independent filmmaker working in America. I saw Goodbye Solo at the MoMA retrospective of his films and it is his best one by far. Totally agree with you guys about West (and the lead actor too) that he is better than Rourke. The acting is just so good and the filmmaking is perfection. This guy is the best!

This film is beautiful! I saw it in Portland. You are so right...West is as good as Rourke! Alex, the little girl won my heart. To move from such a funny beginning to an emotional ending I was so pleased. I have not seen Bahrani's other films, but they are in my queue now...and near the top!

Saw this movie last night at Cleveland International Film Festival. The two primary actors are wonderful in this film. Red West is as good in this film as Mickey Rourke is in The Wrestler, maybe better. The movie depicts its characters and their cultures in neither a condescending nor a falsely sentimental way. The final scenes are works of movie making genius as far as I'm concerned. And to think...it's all filmed in my home state!
