To be honest I don't really care, I'm going to see this film anyway.

It's a joke - They aren't saying that date rape is a good thing or promoting it in anyway whatsoever.

I <3 Seth Rogen and Anna Faris.

They are both such funny people and i'm sure this movie will make me laugh.

It's not like they can change what's in the movie already... bit late don't you think?

Sorry but I doubt any guy would think it were funny if the scene portrayed a gay guy having sex with a straight man that was passed out drunk without his consent. Then I think many of these guys and women that think that this is ok would think differently.

Chris,

I know the flashcard comment seemed over the top to you. But this is an INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT concept, so please forgive me for joining the conversation.

As sexually active adults, it is our responsibility to expressly give consent or deny consent. As sexually active adults, we have the additional responsibility of only accepting consent from other capable adults. If someone has had so much to drink that they might pass out (like Brandi), they are not capable enough to give consent.

Please, in matters of rape and when discussing matters of rape, err on the side of caution. You would rather miss out on a night of sex than cause someone months, years, or a lifetime of trauma.

The one in six,
Jessica

No, no, no, no. Jesus, people---you sound like the Kristian Krazies who dived all over LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST without actually knowing what the movie was about.

A couple of points: 1) If you saw THE FOOT-FIST WAY, you know that Hill's whole approach to filmmaking is to make his protagonists as bad as possible, and test the limits of what you'll laugh at. So saying he's "trying to make rape funny" is stupid---his whole point is that he wants to make you laugh at things that aren't funny, which is why it's interesting (if unsuccessful) comedy. 2)As noted in the comment by the (female) critic at Slate, they initiate sex when she's conscious (albeit drunk, as she usually is in the film). When Rogen thinks she's unconscious he stops. So it's *precisely the opposite* of what y'all are insisting it is. http://slate.com/blogs/blogs/xxfactor/archive/2009/04/10/observe-and-consent.aspx

"He penetrates her when she’s unconscious. That’s rape. No consent = rape. Make up a flash card if you need to."

now now now, lets be mature about this.No need to try to insult. It doesnt make much sense to me that two people can be having consensual sex, then one passes out, then the other, unknowingly if the person actually is passed out, stops and asks the other person, and once stoped the person who "passed out" yells at the other person to continue, and then for some reason that person is called a rapist? now, I can understand if, they hadnt begun having sex in the first place, if he had tricked her into being in that state and if he had penetrated with knowledge of her being unable to consent, but thats not how it was.

I blame Judd A. He must have huge women issues "SuperBad". Seth has now just become his robot so I don't blame him as much.

I can speak about this with experience. This happened to me when my boss promised he would make sure I made it home ok from a X-mas party. I wound up loosing all of my friends at work, my career of 10 years and having a hard time finding a job since the industry is so small. This isn't funny and I would like to see a boycot of this film and any other Judd A. Films.

wait, last time I heard its not rape if its consensual. Considering Rogens character stopped to see if she was unconscious makes it pretty obvious that if she had been unconscious then he would have stopped. And another question I have is if he had tricked her into being in the state that she was in or if she willingly took substances.

Thank you for writing this article.

I won't be seeing this movie.

It's really frustrating to discover (apparently due to living in a cave) that anyone (Rogen and co.) could think date rape is funny in any context.

Especially since one in six women will be raped or sexually assaulted in her lifetime. There was a controversial statistic a while back that the number is actually closer one in four.

Of course, there is another statistic that posits something like sixty percent of rapes go unreported. That controversial one-in-four statistic might not be so out there.

Movies like this, with this "unapologetic" rape apologism, will no doubt make it even harder for women to speak out, as Sady said.

And, to one of the commenters, it doesn't sound "funny when you talk about it." It's not. It's a cheap, demeaning and potentially damaging joke.

I hope this starts a dialogue...

There really needs to be one.

Well, on the bright side, if this inspires anything resembling a national discussion about the disgraceful and silent tolerance of date rape (and rape), then it's not all bad.
