I’m always game to devote one of these roundups to Ghostbusters 3 news, but when it relates to a personal favorite list I wrote 7 months ago, I’m especially interested. Maybe you remember I already cast the female version of Ghostbusters with Elizabeth Banks, Anna Faris, Tina Fey, Niecy Nash, Zooey Deschanel and (replacing the original female cast members) Adrian Brody and Jay Baruchel. But I guess Dan Aykroyd’s latest interview spew of G3 hype is worthy of continued casting ideas, because like Bill Murry before him, he’s focusing our attention on the prospects of girl Ghostbusters. Specifically, he’s proposing the names Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku as potential costars for him and the elder team.

Are they good choices? Most people are shocked at the bland suggestions. But remember these are just actresses Aykroyd thinks are “amazing.” Let’s see what the rest of the blogosphere thinks, after the jump.

  • Mark at I Watch Stuff speculates as to Aykroyd’s true motives for the specific name drops:

In other word, Aykroyd thinks ghosts should be busted by hot babes and/or is under the misguided impression that calling Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku “amazing” might get him laid with them.

  • Meredith Woerner at i09 also sees the choices as little more than lustful wishful thinking:

As for what women Aykroyd thinks should fill out those jumpsuits? That part was easy to answer: Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku. Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded up those two great looking, butt-kicking gals all day on set? Plus Milano did the voices for the Ghostbusters video game.

  • Dustin Rowles at Pajiba gets the impression from these suggestions “that Akroyd doesn’t actually want to make a good movie.” His thoughts on the two actresses:

Milano — maybe. She’s never had a much of a big-screen presence, save for some choice scenes in mostly straight-to-DVD fare that rekindled my teenage Milano lust. And Dushku: Well, there’s hardly a worse actress on the planet, unless you are fans of cold vacant stares and line-readings from droids.

  • S.T. VanAirsdale at Movieline spots a potential Ghostbusters-Charmed crossover:

Aykroyd acknowledged an interest in passing the team’s proton packs to a “five-member ‘new generation’ team with several female members.” His top picks: Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku. Wow. Why so modest? I hear Rose McGowan is available these days. Who else?

  • Monika Bartyzel at Cinematical questions the comedic abilities of Aykroyd’s picks:

I get the feeling that they’re trying to go for a more sleek ghosbusting feel, rather than simple comedy. Neither actress is a big name in the world of laughs, and both have their feet firmly planted in the supernatural fighting biz. So this becomes a bittersweet yay: women are entering the flock, but will we see some of that classic comedy go out the window as the story gets modernized?

  • Lane Brown at Vulture wishes for some Oscar winners:

Aykroyd does some fantasy casting, dangling nerd-bait like Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano, both of whom would make fine Ghostbusters, no doubt. But they’ll likely face heavy competition once the screenplay goes out to the agencies. Which actress would you like to see in a proton pack? Kate Winslet? Marion Cotillard?

  • Kristopher Tapley at In Contention ignores the female Ghostbuster idea and comments on the general concept of new recruits:

I’m wary of a “new generation” angle, because I’m sure there will be one or more actors cast in this thing that I either hate or would rather not saddle up to a personal favorite franchise.  If I see Michael Cera wearing a proton pack, I’ll want to shoot myself.

  • Fark.com’s headline embellishes the news to mention a Milano/Dushku “nude slime-wrestling scene,” to which “albo” immediately responds:

    you think:
Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano as the first female Ghostbusters; nude slime-wrestling scene
    Hollywood gives you:
    a nude Dan Ackroyd

  • Obviously Aykroyd was merely suggesting Milano and Dushku for the film, not announcing their involvement, so for now both actresses have Tweeted that they haven’t (yet) been cast. Geeks of Doom shares the ladies’ Tweets (via The Playlist):

Below are the two denials, first Alyssa Milano’s, answered by Eliza Dushku.

Can’t speak for @ElizaPatricia (Hi, pretty lady)but this is the first I’m hearing of Ghostbusters 3. Did the VO in the game tho.

Ghost-rumor-buster in a big way @Alyssa_milano (hey girlene) it’s nuthin’ I know of.
