I was lucky enough to see the NYC premiere of TETRO. All i have to say is this film is beautiful from the opening credits to the end. Maybe not the best screenplay but this film will go down as one of the most beautiful Coppola has made. New comer Alden Ehrenreich was wonderful, Coppola has a gift in finding new talent.

This film is a breath of fresh air.

Tetro is as accessible to modern audiences as The Red Shoes -- which is to say, not really at all.

I understand what you're getting at, but perhaps his movie might not be viewed as narcissistic if more critics put it in the context of the popular influences which Coppola himself has described as giving the film its rise: writers like Williams ("Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"), O'Neill (the Sins of the Father being visited upon the warring brothers), or even the shots he lifted wholesale from "The Red Shoes" and "Tales of Hoffman" all testify to Coppola's desire to offer accessible, popular entertainment; just in new forms. His success on those terms will be subjective of course, but I think they're still worth mentioning if we are to hope for more from him and others like him in the future.
