It’s a pretty slow news day for movies, with everyone’s concentration on last night’s Tony Awards (congrats to Billy Elliot for making up for the Oscar snub eight years ago), but there is one bit of geek movie news that I’m really intrigued about: the hint of yet another Marvel comic book adaptation due in 2012. Among much information concerning the upcoming films Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America, Alex Billington at First Showing brought word this morning from a conference at the Sony Pictures lot that Marvel Studios will be announcing this secret title within the next few months.
What could it be? And what do you want it to be? Personally, I’m hoping that Scarlett Johansson has impressed the studio so much with her portrayal of Black Widow in the Iron Man sequel that she’s been given her own solo film. That is pretty unlikely, though, considering all the other ideas Marvel has floated over the years. So, will it be Doctor Strange? Luke Cage? Black Panther? S.H.I.E.L.D.? Another Hulk reboot tied to the Avengers movie? Let’s see what the film blogs think, after the jump:
Anyone else see Namor as a possibility for 2012?
Avengers AND possible Cap tie-in as well as a story of his own to tell. I also stand by my theory of Namor being the Avengers villain or one of them. Perhaps due to the destruction of Atlantis which could happen in the Namor movie.
Who agrees?
In theory, it’s not “Ant-Man,” which he already name-dropped during the conference, so what could it be? If they’re going to follow through on their promise to the rapidly-aging Samuel L. Jackson about a “S.H.I.E.L.D.” film, that’s probably a sure bet to be the 2012 project, especially considering it probably won’t involve such a lengthy pre-production process as the other films. Unless Feige is really bad at being coy- he’s talked extensively about his desire for a “Dr. Strange” movie for the last year, so that’s certainly a candidate.
Then Kevin Feige said that Marvel will be announcing a new film within the next few months that will be released in 2012. I wonder what it could be…
My guess is Dr. Strange.
Marvel is also announcing another movie for 2012 very soon. So it’s time to play the guessing game on that one. Fingers crossed for Black Panther.

Maybe The Incredible Hulk 2?Monswine - 06/08/2009 (08:27:48)
…The “new movie” is probably Iron Man III since it was already announced Favreau wants to do a trilogy…mattcl23 - 06/08/2009 (15:32:27)
Maybe they will bring Blade back in 2012??? The thirst always wins! And fuck Morbius fighting Spidey in the fourth movie. They should have saved him for Blade, but we’ll have to see if they still care about that franchise.
Groo has uploaded one trailer to YouTube, though, and we’ve embedded it below. It’s She-Hulk — an 8 1/2-minute pitch to would-be investors, I guess, to show what he could do if he were able to make a full She-Hulk feature. And what could he do? Oh my. Just watch. From what I gather, Groo’s story more or less lines up with how the character originated in Marvel Comics (she’s Bruce Banner’s cousin; gets a blood transfusion from him; etc.), but that’s hardly the point, is it? Anyway, enjoy.
the films above are good /

First of all Stephen Groo didnt upload it onto Youtube.com. Someone uploaded a false Profile claiming to be Stephen Groo. Get this straight. It was just a fun idea. It won’t be made into a big budget film. It was just made for the fans of Wolf Productions. There’s a reason he made his own website. He doesn’t need Youtube. The films he makes is strictly for fun and for the fans. Just thought I’d let everyone understand that, so they can stop the worry.
im thinking black panther. after all he was once a part of the avengers. why not a tie in?
I thought I heard Megan Fox was considering a She-Hulk movie.
Deadpool? Another Wolverine movie?
I heard they were also considering re-doing Fantastic Four (PLEASE!) and Daredevil.
Has anyone noticed “in the comics” in the past 5 years or so; Wolverine, Storm & Spider-Man are Avengers now.
Who were the only characters left alive & with their powers at the end of X-Men 3? Wolverine & Storm.
Also, anyone notice Nick Fury’s scars behind the eye patch at the end of Iron Man? They look kind of like claw marks.
Wolverine & Nick Fury both saw action in WWII.
She-Hulk has ties to Hulk (of course), Avengers and Fantastic Four, and would work well with the Spider-Man franchise.
Marvel has the potential to create a storyline that could use all their movie franchises that could crossover from blockbuster to blockbuster.
Exciting times for old school comic fans.
