I literally cannot tell you how big of a fan of Michael Jackson I was as a very, very little kid. I mean, I have a piece of a coat he wore (really). He hasn’t been that same MJ for years, but I’m still reeling from the shock. Feels surreal. I’m just completely at a loss.

i’m in so. cal. and was listening to the breaking news on the radio about an hour ago. then tmz first reported that he had died and i refused to believe it till the la times confirmed it. i’m 28 and his music was a *huge* part of my childhood. yeah, i went through the teen phase of thinking he was a total nutcase, but my love of his music came back something fierce in my early 20s and i listen to his first three albums regularly. as far as pop music goes, he’s unparalleled.

of course, as always, they’re keeping it super classy over there at gawker.
