I must deliver the regrettable news that, after October 31, 2009, Karina Longworth will no longer serve as SpoutBlog’s editor.

Spout.com, the online community, continues as it has. As of now, we have no plans to publish new content on SpoutBlog after October 31. We hope the SpoutBlog book will console those of you who are used to making your daily visit to blog.spout.com.

Karina’s contract ends at the end of the month and we’ve amiably decided to part ways, the result of a difference in vision over the direction of SpoutBlog. She has been, and continues to be, an exceptional writer, critic and editor. It’s her devotion to her work that made SpoutBlog what it is today.

In hiring Karina Longworth a little over two years ago, I knew we had a talented writer. It was over the last two years that I realized–as many of you did–her opinion on film is the one I value most.

We wish Karina the best in what we know will be a bright future for her.

Sad news, indeed - but mostly for Spout, not so much for us who read Karina Longworth. I’m quite sure we’ll be able to follow her where she goes next. Hopefully, she’s already on her way - best of luck!

But this means bye, bye Spout on my part. I arrived through watching «Four Eyed Monsters» on YouTube. It was a fun time, but time moves on.

    Sad to see her go!

Very sorry to hear this. I’ve enjoyed Karina’s writing a lot (and that of the other bloggers, too).

Whoa! How unfortunate. Good luck to all.

As Karsten said, it’s a shame that Spout couldn’t hold on to the most gifted film critic writing today. (well, that last part’s mine, not his).

I must admit some confusion about the “difference of vision” part . . . In the second paragraph you say that there will be no new content on Spoutblog. So was the “difference of vision” about whether there would be a Spoutblog or not?

I’ll look for answers to surface, but in the meantime, I’ll just look for Karina’s writing wherever I can find it.

    Sad sad news indeed….

I am confident that a writer as smart and gifted as Karina will be snapped up in short order.

Lame. There’s no reason to visit spout anymore.

    Later…

Karina is, as many have already said, one of the smartest people writing about film today, so I wish her well and will look forward to seeing where she emerges next. Spout? Sorry that the blog will be no more, and good luck with the other part of it.

Now that’s a shame. I’ve been a Spout fan since I first heard the promos on Filmspotting and will miss the festival circuit coverage that I had to wait months (most times, years) to read as to not spoil my viewing experiences. But surely in saying goodbye to the entire Spout blog is to say goodbye to all writers? Or am I missing something?

p.s. Karina, DO A NEW HORROR-HOST SHOW/PODCAST THING. I IMPLORE YOU. You know it makes sense now.

    This is really sad.

I will follow the writings of Ms. Longworth and Mr. Campbell wherever they may go.

And another bookmark bites the dust…

I hope Karina’s exit was like the last scene of Dead Poets Society.

What Anne Thompson and David said….it’s a little strange to attribute a difference of vision if you’re apparently having no vision at all,.

  • Christian Gaines said

Karina is very gifted and I’m going to miss her writing very much, but I know she’s got great a great future, Can’t wait to see where she lands!

This is really sad. I was a huge fan of the Spout podcast, largely due to Karina’s appearances. After that sadly ended, the Spout blog was still one of my daily visits on the Web to check out Karina’s work. She’s one of the most intelligent voices about film on the Web and has never been afraid to voice an opinion that differs from the masses. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for her new work. And to echo other’s comments, I’ll be deleting Spout from my favorites.

Wait. Spout.com? You mean there’s more to Spout than just the blog? Who knew?

  • Andy Brodie said

Sorry to read this news. Karina and the SpoutBlog was about the only reason I ever visited this site.

  • jon said

good riddance. this blog has gone to suckdom in recent months.

This is such a shame… Karina was the one reason I read Spout. It’s been said before, but best of luck, Karina, and wherever you end up, I’ll check out your excellent work.
