Christopher Campbell fluctuates between the inclinations to be a pretentious film snob and a fanboy defending blockbuster fluff. He dislikes press screenings because they don't serve popcorn, and he dislikes regular movie theaters because they don't serve GOOD popcorn. He holds a B.A. in film studies from Brooklyn College, which he acquired more than a decade late, having spent his 20's as a film school drop out thumbing his nose at academia. A year prior to going back to school, though, he quit his job in film exhibition (read: popcorn stand manager at a multiplex), moved from Connecticut to NYC and began reviewing and blogging for Cinematical. Other publications he's written for, prior and since, include The Reeler, Where Y'At New Orleans? and READ Magazine. His dream is to one day open a Drafthouse-type cinema in Brooklyn and simply enjoy watching and sharing movies for the rest of his life.

The second trailer for AVATAR is a game changer. Still not sure if the film will be.
Is it possible to predict INVICTUS will win Best Picture this year after only seeing the trailer?
You demanded that PARANORMAL ACTIVITY come to your local theater. Now it’s time to demand that the next film from writer-director Oren Peli also makes to your neighborhood — and for the price Peli is worth.
Would you believe there’s going to be a new STAR WARS trilogy in 3-D directed by Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola? Didn’t think so. Good job, you’re smarter than the average internerd.
Earlier this month, Sarah Ball at Newsweek’s Pop Vox blog took to dispelling the idea that zombies are the new vampires, arguing that they’ll never be as popular — basically because they’re not as sexually appealing. Jessica Barnes at Cinematical later responded with favor towards the living dead over the undead. But zombies are not [...]
Adam Shankman thinks his next musical, ROCK OF AGES, will appeal to “dudes.” But are 80s glam metal songs enough to woo guys? And will he have a similar goal for the Oscars?
Spike Jonze directs Kanye West in a short film that’s a perfect follow-up to both WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and the VMA incident.
Will Ferrell is following his big budget bomb LAND OF THE LOST with a little “indie” comedy. Is this is his attempt at redemption?
Mel Gibson is finally back in a movie. But is EDGE OF DARKNESS the right one to mark his comeback?
Chris Pine is the new Jack Ryan. Will he attempt to fill the shoes of Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck, or will he bring new footwear to the franchise?
Sam Raimi gives comic geeks reason for useless investigation with SPIDER-MAN 4 villain talk.
The last line of the new Toy Story 3 trailer speaks to my usual fear with sequels. “Return of the Astro-Nut,” says Hamm the piggy bank, referring to the fact that the pompous, delusional Buzz Lightyear of the beginning of the first movie is back in a kind of amnesia-induced excuse for recycled plot and [...]
After years of gut-wrenching “Golden Heart” films, chalk-outline experiments about “America,” a co-founded movement for pure cinema and other infamous works including his most recent, the explicit horror film Antichrist, it’s easy to forget that Lars von Trier started his feature film career in the science fiction genre. Of course, he being who he is, [...]
