TOP STORY:

Chris Thilk

Chris Thilk is a long-time movie blogger and has added Director of Marketing here at Spout to his list of life achievements, where it joins appearing on "Bozo's Circus" at age 10, being told to take off an apparently offensive shirt before entering Six Flag's Great America and deciding that two kidneys were one more than he actually needed. He currently writes the Movie Marketing Madness blog (http://www.moviemarketingmadness.com/blog) and has previously contributed to Cinematical.com during the Karina Longworth Era. Chris has also contributed columns on movie marketing and related topics to iMediaConnection.com, Brandweek and MediaBullseye.com and has written about advertising and marketing for the now-defunct AdJab and the still-somehow-functioning-without-him MarketingVox.com. He lives in the Chicago suburbs with his family, including two boys who he tries to school in the ways of the Marx Brothers whenever possible

Spout is always looking for two things: 1) Ways to make sure worthwhile films are seen by an audience, regardless of platform and 2) Like-minded partners to be working with.
That’s why today is such an exciting day. We’re thrilled to announce a partnership with online distribution site MeDeploy that gives independent filmmakers the ability to [...]

We’re all here to make the community better

posted 10 months ago

One of the things I dig most about Spout is that there’s a genuine affection within the company for the community that’s taking part in the discussions, making recommendations and doing everything else the site allows them to do. The folks here all genuinely want to hear what people are liking or not liking, what’s [...]

Time’s running out on those 2008 deals

posted 11 months ago

There’s always lots to do at the end of the year. Reflect back on the year that’s past, plan for the year ahead, write “Best of…” lists and think about…actually I think that about covers it.
Karina’s been doing a bit of all of that.
In an interview with Filmmaker Magazine she talks about how she is [...]

Now that we’re post-Christmas it’s time to highlight once again some of the discussions and lists going on and being created by the members of the Spout community. If you’ve got opinions on some of these discussions you need to get involved. The lists represent not only a chance to connect with people but hopefully [...]

Time once again to feature some of the Spout community’s core members. Along with that comes the opportunity to send each of these people a copy of Yule-A-Go-Go on DVD for all their “burlesque dancers shaking what was given to them in front of a fireplace” home video needs.

There are still quite a few people in the Spout community we’re looking forward to highlighting, including the two folks below. To reiterate why we’re doing this: Spout is only as powerful as it’s members and these are just a few of those members that are leading and participating in discussion, creating groups and otherwise [...]

Since I’m all about fostering discussions and highlighting the great content being produced by the Spout community I wanted to try something new here on Inside.Spout.
“What’s Buzzing” is meant to show you what’s happening on Spout each week in terms of interesting discussions going on and lists that are being created. As you can see [...]

Scott Kirsner, he of Variety, CinemaTech and Inventing the Movies, is looking for help. He’s writing a new book and is looking for…well…I’ll turn it over to him:
If you are a filmmaker, musician, artist, or writer, how do you attract a big audience online…and ideally build a self-sustaining career with the support of that audience?
So [...]

Profiling and thanking some of our users

posted 11 months ago

Spout.com is nothing without the members who come to talk about movies day after day. So in this season of giving, this time of reflection, this period of brotherly appreciation (pregnant pause, eyes watering) we wanted to give something back to our most devoted users.
That something? Yule-A-Go-Go.
Finally, the ole Yule Log has something to get [...]
