Kevin Kelly

Kevin Kelly is a L.A. transplant, but isn't almost everyone in the city of Angels? He spent his formidable years in Texas, studying radio, television and film production, writing, and childrens literature at The University of Texas in Austin. After heading to the west coast he had an extended stint at The Jim Henson Company, working on everything from MirrorMask to Farscape. Eventually, Kelly knew he had to search for new employment options. Not because he hates Muppets, but because the Disney buyout made his position obsolete — just like a piece of technology. Since then he's sought solace in the blogging universe, writing about everything from video games to the entertainment industry. His big hopes for the future include owning a bar very similar to the Double Deuce in the film Road House, where he will exercise his right to kick ass and chew bubblegum.

Colonel Mustard Did It In The Board Game, The Movie, and The Video Game

There are few board games that have endured the test of time to still get played today even during the video game craze. Games like Monopoly, Scrabble, Risk, and Clue are still available at your neighborhood store, decades after they came out. In fact, they’ve all seen multiple releases over the years. There’s a billion [...]

The Most Disappointing Movie To Video Game Adaptation

I’m a self-admitted board game junkie. Perhaps the Sears catalog from back in the 1980s is to blame. The photos of uber-happy families playing games together perverted my mind into thinking that everything that Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers put out was simply something I just had to have. Hell, they even made The Game [...]

The Dark Knight: Where’s the Video Game?

This article is filled with sour notes about the state of Batman video games, but if you want some pure audio delight, click here to listen to Frank Gorshin (he played The Riddler on the Adam West Batman TV show) sing “The Riddler.” Awesome.
Batman is known for vanishing into the night in order to instill [...]

Hollywood + Video Games: George Lucas and LucasArts’ Flipside To Spielberg’s Game Shame

Last week we talked about the video gaming shame of Steven Spielberg, but what’s on the flipside of the Spielberg/Lucas gaming coin? George Lucas founded LucasArts some 26 years ago, and it’s still going strong. Lucas clearly had some sort of video gaming mojo that continues to vex Spielberg to this day. Although what’s even [...]

George Lucas Is In Love With Television

I was lucky enough to be able to go to San Francisco on Sunday night for a screening of Star Wars: Clone Wars. On Monday, Warner Bros. took us out to George Lucas’ Big Rock Ranch for an interview with Lucas himself, along with director Dave Filoni and producer Catherine Winder. However, it pretty much [...]

Hollywood + Video Games: The Gaming Shame of Steven Spielberg

What Zach Snyder––and other filmmakers whose movies will inevitably end up as video games––can learn from the E.T. / Atari debacle of 1983.

Comic-Con 2008: The Notable Absence of Star Trek

Comic-Con 2008’s biggest defect? A notable lack of STAR TREK.

Comic-Con 2008: Tropic Thunder Rolls Through San Diego

Seriously, with a title like Tropic Thunder, I wonder how many storm-related movie headlines will be out there. Stuff like “Tropic Thunder blows into town this weekend!” or “Tropic Thunder hopes for box office lightning!” Is there anywhere you can apply for a job putting really bad puns to work? If so, I want it. [...]

Comic-Con 2008: Interview with Gil Kenan of The City of Ember

Walden Media and Fox had two special retro Pullman cars set up chock full of gear and footage from the upcoming film City Of Ember, and packed some lucky press sardines inside to get a peek on the way down to Comic-Con. While the Amtrak train I took wasn’t quite as cool, I was able [...]

Comic-Con 2008: Hamlet 2 Wants To Rock You Sexy Jesus

Hamlet 2 is one of the funnier films you probably haven’t heard of unless you track the movie sales at Sundance. Earlier this year it almost broke the Little Miss Sunshine record of 10.5 million when it sold for 10 million to Focus Features. The New York Times says “”It made sure to take shots [...]
