Rick DeVos

A formative moment: When I was in middle school I carted a video camera on travels all over the globe, shooting hours of footage. When I got home I screened it –unedited, mind you– for my classmates, thrilling all of us because it totally wasted two full days of school. On dropping everything for Spout: I wanted to start Spout because it’s an exciting time in the film industry. There’s a unique combination of circumstances that offer opportunities to radically alter the way film is produced, found, and consumed. On watching films: I like to watch films because it allows me to create and enter into a new world for my mind to chew on for a while. Films can transport me to everything from a fantastical physical world to an alternate world or a specific moral universe. Watching films can also be an engagement with what it means to be human.

I saw every single one of the Star Wars prequels.
I saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
I saw, and enjoyed, Ocean’s 12 because European locations look amazing on film. And yes, you can mock me.
I enjoy text messaging my friends during important dinners to find out what happened on my favorite TV shows.
I love the [...]

DVD Wars

Every day seems to bring yet another story regarding the different companies lining up into the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD camp. Personally, I’m thinking that Blu-Ray will win out in the end, due to a combination of adoption by many studios and its inclusion in the PlayStation3. Also personally, I have concerns about issues such [...]

Why SpoutBlog?

A little over a year ago, my friends and I were tossing around thoughts about how lately films and filmmaking seem to be going in an interesting direction. These thoughts started turning into ideas. Then we got together to work on refining these ideas we had, and see if we could make something of them.
Why [...]
